Inventor Constraints Pointing the wrong way....

Good Evening,

I am pretty new to Inventor and am having a problem with constraints.

I downloaded some parts from a supplier in .stp format and opened them in Inventor and saved them back as .ipt.

When I try to create an assembly, I try to use a mate mate constraint but the arrow is pointing the wrong way.... kind of inward to the part.

My thought is this has something to do with the way I'm importing the part....

I attached the step and the ipt that is acting up...

What in God's name am I doing wrong.

Thanks in advance,

Greatfully

Jim

Hi Jim,

I don't see your steps attached but your part is enough to fix the problem with normals of imported planar surfaces.

Follow these steps:

1. Open your part .

2. In browser view right-click on Composite1 node.

3. Start "Repair Bodies" command from context menu. This will start Repair Environment in Inventor.

4. On the main ribbon you can find command "Reverse Normal" (the last one).

5. Start this command and select face you want to fix. Press Apply in the dialog box.

6. Finish Repair Environment.

That's it.

I hope this helps.

Good Morning Robert,

I tried this on one of the faces and it seemed to work. Since all faces seem to point the wrong way, is there a way to do this for all faces at once?

I have a ton of parts to bring in from the manufacture and it will take me a long time.

I also noticed, once I do this, trying to do a second face is a bit more confusing.

Lastly, what is causing this? I tried to attach the stp file but it wouldn't allow me. THis time I will try to send the .zip with the stp in it....

Am I importing it wrong?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

I'm not an expert for STP importer so I can't provide more details from this area, but I forwarded your questions to the team which is responsible for STP import. They will provide feedback to you.

Thanks,

Robert

You have posted to the correct group.

If you use the correct option (Stitch) when Opening your part will be opened as a solid.

There are other techniques if you want as an assembly or if repair is needed.
