Can anyone tell me how i can get a better score and get inventor to run better. I had a dell that scored a better score then this brand new laptop. Here are my computer specs.

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

Intel Core I7-6700K CPU @4.00 GHZ

64 Gig of Ram

Dual Nvidia Geforce GTX 980m

NVMe Samsung SSD 950

Am I just missing a setting somewhere

I assume you ran the test without any other application running, is that correct?  First thing I would check is to make sure you have the latest video driver for your card.   I looked up the driver on NVIDIA site and one was just released on March 8th.  I would start there first.   But others will chime in and give you other suggestions.

Make sure that your Power Settings Profile is set to Performance as well. Not only as posted on checking for GPU card updates but all system device driver updates. Most systems are assembled from the factory with old drivers and possibly early versions of BIOS.

In some systems that have both integrated as well as above board graphics cards, the factory default is to use the integrated GPU. You can over-ride this with the Nvidia control panel and select which programs are to use the Nvidia 'High-Performance" GPU.

Your graphics scores are "acceptable" but your HD stuff,etc.. is crap..

Its a laptop so that isn't helping but yes as blair said you are set on balanced or power saving mode or something..

Also was your laptop plugged in during the test and charging?

A laptop will have different performance settings when plugged in and when not..

Fix that and retry..

You should be scoring much better than that with the hardware you have.. But I'd bet its the power modes as stated

I would spend time looking around the BIOS on your system. Older systems would throttle back the HD speed in the BIOS with a Quiet Mode, this would reduce the speed of the Read/Write Heads on the HD to make the system quieter.

Even though you had SSD drives, their could still be a setting that reduces the performance. Even though they put in a SSD drive, a lot of BIOS settings are still default for older platter type drives. This could be part of your HD performance issue.

be very careful with overclocking if you don't know what you are doing..

Overclocking MUST involve monitoring CPU temps,etc..to avoid long term (and short term) damage..
