Inventor 2026 Bugs

Hey all, I just updated from Inventor 2021 and have noticed some bugs that need pointing out. I was hesitant to update because I was heavily involved in the forums getting 2021 bug-free. These are just a few things I've noticed:

- When projecting geometry sometimes it comes in as hidden, sometimes not. Maybe this is correct but I can't seem to distinguish what causes it to go one way or another.

- The hole tool doesn't allow me to drag a selection window over the sketch to select points (not user created points, just projected points). I can drag a window before but not after. Downside is if I miss a point I don't know until the hole tool is up then I have to start over.

- The vertical/horizontal constraint preview line in sketch mode is running the wrong way. When the dashed line is horizontal, the constraint is actually for vertical.

- When making multiple flush constraints (say 10 objects one after another) you can't select some of the surfaces without backing out and re-enter the constraint window. Seems the second face from the previous constraint is the one unavailable. I like the multiselect but it doesn't seem to work right at all so I avoid it currently.

- When switching to "Parts Only" tab on BOM the "Auto Renumber" button is checked by default. I number my designed components 1-199 and purchased 200+ so don't like that feature. Would like it to remain off permanently.

I have been using Inventor for 10+ years now and these are things that affect my productivity every day at work. Some obviously are more important than others. I design fixtures for the auto industry and any given fixture may have 100+ holes in one detail so the hole tool working properly is a big one. Hope these all make sense and the right person sees this.

Thanks!

- When projecting geometry sometimes it comes in as hidden, sometimes not. Maybe this is correct but I can't seem to distinguish what causes it to go one way or another.

[JS]: On 2026, a shortcut key was added to switch between solid line and construction line when projecting sketch. Press Shift + Left Mouse Click -> select a target edge. The projected sketch line type will become construction. Without Shift key, the edges are projected normally.

- The hole tool doesn't allow me to drag a selection window over the sketch to select points (not user created points, just projected points). I can drag a window before but not after. Downside is if I miss a point I don't know until the hole tool is up then I have to start over.

[JS]: As long as the sketch points are center point type (not dot), they should be either automatically  selected or manually selected (including window-select). For dot-type sketch points, you will need to manually pick it one-by-one.

Try unchecking the option in the three-bar hamburger menu "Preselect sketch center points." Does it work more desirably now?

- The vertical/horizontal constraint preview line in sketch mode is running the wrong way. When the dashed line is horizontal, the constraint is actually for vertical.

[JS]: This isn't unique to 2026. This is likely related to the default sketch coordinate orientation. The sketch XY is probably not what you anticipate it. Finish Sketch and right-click on the sketch node in the browser -> Edit Sketch Coordinate -> align the X or Y accordingly.

- When making multiple flush constraints (say 10 objects one after another) you can't select some of the surfaces without backing out and re-enter the constraint window. Seems the second face from the previous constraint is the one unavailable. I like the multiselect but it doesn't seem to work right at all so I avoid it currently.

[JS]: I vaguely remember this was a bug on 2026 RTM build. Please install 2026.1. It should have been fixed there.

- When switching to "Parts Only" tab on BOM the "Auto Renumber" button is checked by default. I number my designed components 1-199 and purchased 200+ so don't like that feature. Would like it to remain off permanently.

[JS]: The BOM related settings are file specific. You may open the iam template file, set them accordingly, and save the file. Or you may open an old iam file with the desirable BOM settings. Go to BOM table -> Export (the button at the bottom of the dialog). Then import the settings to any iam file.

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to explain these things. Project geometry I must've left my finger on the shift key at some point so that makes sense. The vertical/horizontal I've only seen happen a few times but never in 2021 so seems weird. For the hole tool, it was the "window select center points only" that was messing me up. I unchecked that option and the drag window selects all points now like before. This is awesome thanks so much! Have a great weekend!
