Inventor 2019 Opening Material Library Failed

Hi,

I just installed Inventor 2019 and I have problem with my material library. In previous version was not problem with new version of Inventor, but now in 2019 is ignored my material library in project options and also if I want to open material library in part - error is showed. See in picture.

How I can fix it? I do not want to make new library. I try migration of library, but I do not know how I can use it.

Thank you for your answer.

This is an English Speaking forum..  Is it possible that you can convert that error message so we can understand what it is stating..

ALso what do you mean its ignoring your material in your project options.  Is there a error message there as well?

To me it sounds like a corrupt library.  Do you have a backup copy of it?

Here it is...

You have to only rename file to .adsklib

Same problem again, materials are again not in Inventor. I use new project file, new part and problem is the same...

Hi! Try following the steps. Does it work?

Start Inventor and open or start a new part.

Start Material Browser or Appearance Browser.

Click on the lower left corner button -> Open existing library -> select the .adsklib file.

Could you share the .adsklib file?

Many thanks!

Hi,

I tried to open existing library and select my library file but materials are not loaded. In list of materials is only note that this library not content any materials.

My material library are in previous post materialy.txt. You have to only rename file to .adsklib.

@premysl.misun Sorry but this is not a solution; it is trible step back...

I have around hundred of materials and full RAL palette in my company setup and standard migration of settings bring Materials and Appearance errors. Even after clicking, loading, removing libraries or trying to "copy" materials via in part existence it comes to empty drop down list. What is weird it behaves bit different on different machines - sometimes the error sign is disappearing sometimes not.

Hi! I suspect the library itself is corrupted. Do you edit the library frequently (adding and removing styles)? If yes, I would suggest you want to create a stable library and avoid excessive editing to the styles. You may want to make it readonly or lock it in a library folder.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue  Yes one of the hint says that Library is corrupted but what does it mean? Is the .adsklib file structure different in I2019 according to I2016? If yes then why there is no migration tool for Material and Appearance? The RE-DO will take few days (and taking into account the annoying library manager a lot of stress) and it's not what boss want to hear...

Hi! The process of migrating the entire library is a bit mystery to me. There isn't a workflow forcing .adsklib file to migrate from one release to another. However, I do believe .adsklib in 2019 cannot be used in earlier releases. If you have attempted to share material libraries across releases, it might explain why it is corrupted.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue, good afternoon!  I'm facing a similar issue with a client, where the library will not even open in the material editor and I suspect it is corrupted.  Are there any tricks for recovering the data in a library, like a database editor or something?  I'd hate for the user to have to recreate their custom materials, but am not seeing any other options at this point...  Thanks in advance for your assistance and have a most blessed day!

Peace,
Pete

I know this is not the question you need at this point but did you customer ever backed this up?  In Vault or on the network?

@Mark.Lancaster, ha ha, no worries.  I asked them that question myself and their stunned silence was not very reassuring...  I suspect that they do not have a backup, but am waiting for final confirmation.  I'm just fishing for any potential methods for recovering their data.  Thanks for reaching out and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Unfortunately, once the library is corrupted, there isn't much we can do. Have they tried the followings?

1) Insert all styles (material and appearance) to a part as local styles.

2) Create a brand new empty material library.

3) Insert the styles from the part to the library.

Are the libraries on a network drive shared among multiple users? Or, they are on individual users' machines and managed by Admin (Vaulted).

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue  I try this method and it didn't help. The brand new Library file injected with local materials/ appearances became "corrupted". "Pick existing file" -> error -> restart Inv -> library display as duplicated (one with mark one good) ->remove the one with ! mark -> work for some machines.
