Inventor 2017 freezing in some situations

In the company where I work we have two stations with Inventor 2017. For some weeks now we are facing some situations where the program hangs:

  • Resizing the program window, with a file open in it;
  • Opening a file inside another (from an assembly, a subassembly or a part; or the origin of a view in an IDW);
  • With more than one file open, try to switch between them in the tabs at the bottom of the window;
  • Try to open an IPT file.

If the error occurs, it is only possible to close the Inventor process in the task manager. And for some errors, for example opening IPT files, I can only get back to work after restarting the computer.

I tried to find some solution and found nothing like this error. The IT supervisor scanned the two machines and found no update package that might have caused the problem.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Do you have the "My Home" window open in the background?

I have had similar issues with 2017 but they stopped once I closed this and turned it off in the application options > General tab > uncheck "show my home on startup" in the lower right had corner.

What do you have for a video card and driver?

Have you tried a new IPJ?

or

The Inventor Reset Utility?

Working locally / over a Network / Vault?

Check and see if any Microsoft installed updates coincide with the start of these issues. I know the WIn10 Fall Creator update is causing issues with IV2018.2.

You might need to in-install their latest updates.

Hi Fernando,

The issue sounds like Microsoft .Net related. Could you go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> see if .Net 4.6 or 4.7 is installed. If it is not installed, make sure you go to Microsoft and install .Net 4.6 or 4.7.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Please try to run Inventor as administrator. If it doesn't work, please disable your antivirus and other pc protections including windows firewall one by one.

We upgraded to Inventor 2018 and this resolved the issue.
