Inventor 2016 not responding when creating new drawing view

Inventor 2016 goes into a non responsive mode whenever I go from the modeling work space to creating new drawing view. The drawing view window just locks up, plus it does not create a crash report so I can't send anything to Autodesk to show what is happening.

Granted I just got a new computer and I am using Windows 10. I am using an Icore 7 quad core with a 1 terabyte SSD hard drive, 32 gig of ram and a NVIDIA Quadro P2000 video card.

I updated the NVIDIA driver and still nothing happens.

I can open old .idw drawings and make changes but can't start a new one.

I've even went to Autodesk downloads and made sure I've updated all service packs.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Does this issue happens for all assemblies/parts or its a specific problem?

If so, Try to rebuild all from manage tab to see if the assembly/part you are trying to draw has any problem.

Hi latrach.fouad,

After doing more investigation on why this problem is happening, it turns our that I down loaded an assembled model (the company gave me) from a pretty renown world wide company (not going to say name, let's just say that make engines). The assembled model that they gave me is what is causing the problem. I can open up all my other models and go to new drawing view with no problems at all. The assembled model that they gave me is about 154MB. This assembled model is not on a network either, it is on my local hard drive.

So I'm finding out that Inventor does not like very large models only after using it for over 2 years now!!!!

Great! I guess I should have stayed with Solidworks, they didn't have this problem and I was working on models larger that 350MB over a 1 gig internet service provider.

Thanks for the advise

Hi Steve,

The behavior does not sound right to me. Inventor should work very well on a machine with spec like that. We have customer files 10 times bigger than the one you are working on and Inventor 2016 can create drawing views without a problem.  Could you help me answer the following questions?

1) What exact Inventor 2016 build are you on? Please check Help -> About.

2) Try disabling all add-ins (go to Tools -> Add-Ins -> select all and uncheck both boxes -> restart Inventor).

3) Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> select Conservative mode -> Ok.

Now try creating a drawing view from the large assembly. Does it work?

Many thanks!

Hello Mr. Shiue,

Many thanks for your advice. I am running Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 64-Bit Edition, Build: 236, Release: 2015.2.3- Date 1/30/2017.

I did what you told me to do and that did the trick. I didn't have to wait at all when I went from assembly to drawing view and was able to place views without a hitch.

Thank you very much, that fixed the problem.

Hi Steve,

You are more than welcome! Do you mind elaborating what exact step helped? Disabling add-ins or changing Hardware setting? Did you find out which exact add-in slow down the process?

Many thanks!

Hello Again Mr. Shiue

I tried to replicate what I did yesterday to see if removing the Add-ins worked but I guess I got lucky because I could not get it to work again this morning.

So I can not tell you what worked. I am still having problems with that particular model. I don't have time to try and figure out what I need to do to make it work again because I have a pretty large work load that I need to take care before I can get back to this problem again.

When I get the chance again to work on this model and can make it work, I'll post it here. The file is to large to attach to this post so I can't let you try and see what's going on with it.

Thanks again

Steve
