Inventor 2012 to Inventor 2016

All,

We just upgrade Ineventor 2012 to 2016. I am not impress muuch about 2016 it crash a lot. I am not sure because we jump too far from 2012 to 2016.

I have a lot old drawing that we try to reuse (Copy design) for new job and I found many drawing that has the view move around and some view fall out side the border.

I try to open the same drawing in 2012 data base and it look fine. Also the edit view model tab is grey out so I can change the line style or margin of the view.

Any one see this problem?

Please open the attachment picture for more detail.

Thanks

I am using Win 7 & 8 Pro 64 bit I7 core 48 GB ram

Inventor Ultimate and basic vault.

I work in both 2016 and 2012 and haven't seen this yet...

My dataset is different then yours though.

Have you instead the updates for 2016 yet?

Your simple statement that you open the same file in 2012 suggests you did not migrate your files to the 2016 version. It is common knowledge that when ever you upgrade to the next version of Inventor, you follow a specific method for doing so (backup, etc) but you should always migrate your older versioned files up to the newest version of Inventor. I would expect 2016 to crash alot if you did not migrate your files. HTH

All drawing are migrate to 2016 and we use the copy design in vault to make new assembly and drawing to use on the new project.

Thanks

The picture you attached shows you trying to edit the view settings for "referenced parts"..

If you don't have any in your assembly that section should be "grey out"

Does that model have "referenced parts" ?

you stated the drawings have been migrated to 2016...usually the drawings are the last thing to migrate. Parts first, then assemblies and finally drawings. But if the drawings were migrated to 2016, what are you opening in 2012? After the drawings have been migrated, they should not be able to be opened in 2012.

My company upgrade to from 2012 to 2016 but we still let the 2012 server run off site for few weeks after upgrade to 2016.
I mean I open the same drawing in 2012 data base.
Thanks

You are right. This assembly has no REF part. It has few Phantom parts.
I am not sure why you can change the margin in the model tab.
Any way soon I change few parts in the assembly to REF to test and the model tab are on and it allow me to change the margin and part line or other thing.
I still don't know why the view jumping every where in the drawing.
Thanks

The view that you are tring to edit in your screenshot has a green line to a 2nd view to the upper right.  Are you trying to edit the base view or a child view?

The view I am try to edit is master view and it is the only view.
I think Mr. Mcgyvr already answer my question about the model tab grey out in view edit.
The reason the model tab grey out because I have no REF part in the assembly.

Hi mcdavis,

I just came across your post from last year stating that you workin both 2012 and 2016 Inventor.  If okay, can I message you with a few questions about little hiccups the 2012 import function seems to have and if you have found any workarounds (for example, not all drawings within an assembly import)?

I would really appreciate your insight as we are pushing to get all old Mechanical Desktop 2009 files into Inventor 2012 before upgrading to a later version (Inventor 2012 allows us to keep model features).

Thanks,

Candace
