Inventor 2011 Error Code 0xc0000142

Hi All,

I purchased this version back in 2010 and it worked just fine on my old laptop. I went to went to work for a company that used Inventor and now retired I want to reinstall my old version on a new computer running Windows 11.  It installs okay but won't run, even when I change the compatibility to either of the Widows versions available.

I'm no design engineer and all I want to do is create little models that I can make using my 3D printer for my model railway layout, so I don't need to invest in the latest technology.  Any help would be appreciated.

Best Rgds,

Dave R.

Have you applied the service pack updates and hotfixes/patches to Inventor 2011? Here's the official Autodesk article on these compatibility errors, and which updates to fix them:

You may need to type in AVA and ask for those, or find them from a reseller or any kind soul who may still hold those patches. https://ava.autodesk.com

From another post on the Microsoft forums, it seems like you need a few patches/updates and run as admin after launching AutoCAD Mechanical at least once. Lots of workarounds, but hey, Windows 11 is so far from when Inventor 2011 was launched that these convoluted paths seem like the only way (short of partitioning your hard drive and installing an older version of Windows prior to Win10):

Hi! I suggest you look into Fusion 360. It offers various licensing options (including free license for hobbyists).

Many thanks!
