inventor 16 not using all cores

Once again with Inventor 16 we have to find a way to hold its hand & baby it.

I'm running I7 4 core, 3.3 ghz, 16 megs of ram, nvidia Quadro m4000 video card.

The model I have posted is being fully constrained, yet when I go in and out of sketch mode it takes forever.

especially when linked to a spreadsheet, lots of wasted time, i try to keep sketches to a minimum & not

pattern or mirror any sketch entities, and its using 60 to 80 threads on average when thinking.

anyone have a trick to get around this?

Have you unchecked "Autoproject edges for sketch creation and edit" in tools..application options..sketch tab..?

Looks like you have a fairly complex model going on there.. I'd expect some slowness..

Its a laptop too isn't it..

See sick dimensions (pink),etc...

I don't know what you are doing so I can't really comment any further.. But looks like you are doing some cable tray stuff and have modeled the cores of the wire,etc... No idea if all that is really needed..

Good luck..

Auto project is off, there are some sick dimensions, I m slowly correcting them, I have to show a x-section of these cables

they are extruded 1inch, i have a workstation single user no vault.

Here is info on multi-core usage..

Not really sure what else we can offer you..

No CAD program is "instant".. Thousands and millions of calculations are going on.. You have a lot going on there in the image you posted..

A faster processor would help some.. 3.3 is "kind of" slow now for a high performance CAD machine...

An expensive quadro isn't buying you anything either really unless you have other OpenGL applications,etc..

If you want to PM me I can give you my email to send the file to and I'll let you know how fast I can edit sketches,etc.. for comparison..

Hi! Certainly faster CPU and more cores will help overall performance, particularly some of the Inventor processes utilizing multi-core compute. RAM is also important. 16GB is considered basic. If your graphics card also uses system RAM, 16GB may not be enough.

The behavior you describe sounds like Inventor is using harddrive swap space, possibly due to lack of RAM. Could you try something for me?

1) Go to Tools -> Application Options -> File -> uncheck Quick File Open.

2) Go to Tools -> Add-Ins -> unload all unused Add-Ins.

3) Go to Tools -> General -> uncheck "Show MyHome" at startup.

3) Close Inventor. Go to Task Manager -> terminate other programs.

4) Start up Inventor and perform the workflow you describe.

Is it still slow? If yes, please send me the file (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). Something is not working right.

Many thanks!
