Insert Vertex into section line

Inventor Drawing: I have a stepped section line. I want  to edit my section line and add a vertex to go through some new feature (without destroying my existing section). How do I add a vertex to an established section line?

Hi!

Select the section line, RMB, and select edit.

It will open the sketch environment... The section line will be a sketched line. Edit the line as you wish.

Hey - Stop accepting your own posts as the solution.

This is how to edit a section line it is not how to insert a vertex.

You insert a vertex by editing the section line.  That is the solution.

There is no "Insert Vertex" command for section lines, since they are defined by a view sketch in which you use the standard sketch tools.

Hi! It was me accepting Carlos' post as a solution. Nobody can accept his or her own posting as a solution. I believe editing the section sketch is the right way to do it. If it does not work, please share an example. Forum experts can help take a further look.

Many thanks!

Maybe if you carefully explain what you don't understand about the answer that has been given, someone could offer more helpful advice.  You've been contributing to the Inventor Forum for a year, now, so I was making an assumption (apparently erroneous) that you know how to sketch in Inventor.

You want an additional jog in a section sketch, you add it with the line tool, maybe trim something to suit your purposes, maybe you'll need to project some geometry to constrain to... that's it.  Exit the sketch, and hopefully you now have what you need.

If that doesn't work for you, then attach the relevant files here.

I think that you are telling me that Inventor does not have the Add Vertex feature. AutoCAD does.

Hi! Indeed, in Sketch Line command, there isn't an option to add a vertex (split and break). You do have to intersect a line and trim/split it. This is how Inventor sketch works, not limited to section lines.

Many thanks!
