Include images with IDW Drawings

Hello,

I need to include images in Inventor 2019 IDW drawings...I used to be able to this in earlier versions.

When I try with Manage/Insert Object/Include File.....the image comes in badly rotated and it seems impossible to orient it properly.

When I try creating  and then Inserting a Symbol with an embedded image ..Annotations/Insert Sketch Symbol....I am able to manipulate and rotate the symbol containing the image but when it comes time to print it gets displaced. I tried anchoring somehow with no success.

Does anyone have a bullet proof work flow for this ?

Hi! I think I have seen this behavior before. There is indeed limited ability to manipulate inserted object (OLE). It is better to use Sketch Symbol like you mentioned. If it is not working for you, we may have a bug here. Could you share the files here?

Many thanks!

Hello,

Another solution I found was to use this method....

Manage//Insert Object

......check off "Create New" radio button

..........select  from "Object Type" list   "Paintbrush Picture"

Paste this empty object on the IDW drawing.

Active this object and paste inside of it a copied picture and adjust as required.

Close the edit mode.

Manually adjust aspect ratio.

It should be more stable.

The drawing was originally created in Inventor 2016.

When I try with a clean Inventor 2019 IDW drawing, there is no problem, all methods work.

So careful when working with IDW originally from older versions of Inventor.

Hi! I was hoping you can share the Inventor files and the images.

Many thanks!

Hello,

It is a 40 page drawing with many different assemblies....the assemblies are huge. Can I show it to you on a web meeting instead ?

Hi! Could you share a simple one here? I just want to understand the workflow and expected behavior.

Many thanks!

If you have many drawings and each one contain "images" I would tell you to move to Illustrator or some similar software. there's a way to retain the lines as vector type and much easier to play with images.  ( assumed the project is at execution, or technical literature stage and not on daily edits mode)

after all, Inventor is not graphic design software..and therefore limited in this field.
