Can someone try to open/import this stp file?

I only managed to open it once. I tried to couple it to my engine but can't save. Errors like syntax error, etc....or I save already but this part is gone. Subsequently I tried to re-download & open the file again, it only gives me an empty screen....

Hello @elaine.chan,

Works well in Inventor 2019.

Hope it helps!

It's looking good and well structured here, too.

Best way is initial grounding of all components after import; they can be constrained gradually, if needed. (But it's not done in my picture)

I've noticed some possibilities for file reducing: The fan in the screenshot is no sub-assy and every blade has a separate file (1910JM-WOODS-20__x)

Opened in Inv2019 then re-exported as a STEP file.

While others have been able to open it ... let's see why you can't!

Can you tell us more about your PC?

What CPU / GPU / Ram you have?

Oh! Several unsaved files here when trying to store the complete assy as Inventor 2019 data. Perhaps because there are problems with Chinese names in some IPTs.

I suspect Nigel's new STEP doesn't include them, either. I'll give it a try.

Later: Nigel's STEP came in as multibody with 1108 solids. Now a test with an ancient Inventor release

Later again: Import progress with old Inventor is no good. I'll go out biking for some hours. Fingers crossed Smiley Wink

My STEP might be OK as I didn't attempt to save any of the files, just imported the original STEP into a new ipt & then exported the result as a new STEP. I tend to do this with 3rd part STEPs as it avoids any later problems with lost links & having to save additional files.

I opened in 2017 without issue.  (but I didn't try to then save)

That's one point of view, Nigel. But I never would act this way, if other methods are possible. In many cases re-activating even of animations can be done with a well structured import.

Meanwhile I'm back from biking, and import was complete in 2014. All files could be saved without any issue.

Jeffrey ( @TheCADWhisperer ) can you try it with 2017?

Hi Elaine,

None of the experts here are able to reproduce the error you are seeing. Could you be more specific on what Inventor release you are on?

Many thanks!

Elaine seems to be in Singapoore, Johnson. Maybe she's now in weekend. Looking at other entries of Elaine, I think she's using 2018.

Let me explain: I could open the STEP in 2019, but several files refused saving out of 2019. Saving an import attempt into 2014 was ok.

Issue is more in saving out of test in 2019 and perhaps 2018, than opening.

I can't do a screenshot/print screen. Could I have done anything to the settings upon opening an STEP file?

Import of 2nd STEP looks good in 2019, Elaine. I'm trying to save now.

SG2-xx Import.jpg

Some minutes later: Same experience as with the other file. Several components refuse saving. Next attempt with 2018 instead of 2019.

2018 import stopped after saving 130 files out of 1070.

Smiley Embarassed Next attempt with 2017

Later: 2017 ended again with several unsaved files. Now down to 2016
