Importing .mtl files or texturing .obj Files in Autodesk Inventor

Hey!

For a project, I want to use a photogrammetric model of a terrain as reference for my design.

My photogrammetry software exports .obj (3D-Data), .jpg (texture) and a .mtl (3D-Data and texturing data).

I have no problem importing the .obj model, but since I can't make out certain details without a texture I tried to import the .mtl file into Inventor. It seems like this is not possible, am I right with that?

I then tried to texture the imported .obj file using a cosutum material. I did this by creating a new material using the .jpg as the "Image". This didn't work either.

Does anyone know a way to import these types of files or know a work-around?

I can sadly not supply you with any sample files at the moment since this is a confidential project.

I don't think it is possible to load the mtl file.

You could try to convert your obj mesh to a solid with this addon "Mesh Enabler":

https://apps.autodesk.com/INVNTOR/de/Detail/Index?id=6950391119076900441&appLang=en&os=Win64

But be warned: Use only simplified geometry with that addon!

When you have a solid you could add a decal:

Just a very basic landscape created with blender3d (polygoncount decreased to  ~3000 faces) and put some landscape texture to it.

Decal added to solidDecal added to solid
