Import an Autocad file from Vault

Hello all,

This is my workflow:

- I have a part (ipt) open and click Import (3D Model / Create)

- In the Import dialog box I select <browse to a file in Vault>, see attached

- I select the autocad file from Vault and switch in the Options for Import selection, see attached

- After I click OK to end the <File Open Options> dialog box the Import selection is not remembered; I know that because I open it again and defaults to Open selection.

- I click on <Open> and it opens the file instead of creating a link to the autocad file. Everything works fine if I Import and select the autocad file from my local space (not Vault)

I hope I am missing something and it's not a bug...

I'm using 2018 and 2019, same story.

Thank you for your help.

Hello @RStancescu I have been trying to get that to link within Vault like you show and think that it might be a limitation.

You can grab a .dwg from the working folder by "Get", but not within Vault as it just opens it in a new window instead of linking the file for the geometry.

Am forwarding to development for further review, possibly find a better workflow to link the .dwg from Vault.

Hi! I think it is a bug or a limitation in the Vault Add-In dialog. The dialog currently is doing something fairly similar to opening a dwg file from File Explorer for example. As a result, you have two traditional options: Open and Import. The former is opening the dwg in Inventor as readonly. Import would go through the traditional dwg import process (wizard).

I believe you are looking for dwg underlay workflow. You will need to get the file from Vault to a local folder. Then use Import command to select the dwg file (without going through Vault Open dialog). It should work.

Many thanks!

Thank you Johnson for your reply. We always did it from local space but I thought <Import> option would work great within Vault. Better to remove the import selection if it doesnt do what's supposed to do.
