Ifeature, problem with creation

Hi everyone,

I have a problem about the creation of ifeature. I need create the ifeature in two face: in the front I have a rectangular extrusion, on the back face I have circle extrusion ( I create an offeset plan and use it for create this extrusion). Extrusion that pierce the part is the third extrusion.

When I create the extrusions on my part, if I modify the parameters about them, I can modify them correctly.

1.PNG front before  creation

When I create the i feature and I palce it on the part the extrusion aren't correclty, and I don't undestand why.

4.PNG back after creation

3.PNG front after creation

I attached the two file .ipt that I used for creation and the .ide file of feature. Thanks.

Hi Filippo,

It is due to the way the sketches for the following up iFeatures were created. One has to be very careful with what constrains and dimensions to introduce. Mainly - the constrains. Stay clear from horizontal and vertical constrains. As well as projected origin geometry, The Inventor Help file does point on these and some other conditions for the iFeature creation. You need to read through those recommendations a few times to get a grasp of it. Plus - there are some helpful videos' on YouTube too.

Attached is a simple iFeature which resembles the one you are after (IV2020 format). You have to unzip it, since the forum doesn't accept iFeature extension. It is fully modifiable, so it might be useful to your real design, I hope.

Cheers,

Igor.

Thanks for your answer.

I see you used the hole like a feature, but when I trough to use it Inventor gave me a problem and I don't know why.
So if I want to do a list of triks:

- don't use vertical or horizontal constraint

- don't use projected geometry but only the costruction lines

Do you have anything to suggested to me?

Nothing I can think of at a moment. Practice and perseverance - these are the ways to go, I suppose. 🙂

I don't know - why the Hole feature doesn't work for you. I have just used it myself in the example I have posted...

Cheers,

Igor.

Hi,

I don't understand why but I can't create correctly the ifeature. I follow your suggestes but I can't create correctly the ifeature. I need to insert the dimension from feature center to low panel of panel, and to left side of panel. The parameters's name are (Y_Lavorazione, X_Lavorazione).

Where am I wandering?

Hi Fillipo;

It is something in the way you are creating sketches of your features. They got to be clean and simple.

I have tried to quickly fix them, but while I get the shape I want - upon editing the  iFeature itself - I am getting a cyclic dependency error. Yet the one I have posted earlier is updated as expected.

I will have a more detailed look into it tomorrow. Unless you get it working by than.

Cheers,

Igor.

Hello again, Filippo;

As I have said - your source file for the iFeature is pretty complicated. The parameters are linked and so on. It is not going to work nicely. Do your iFeature from scratch. Jus as I have done in previously posted files, Than it will work.

Cheers,

Igor.

Hi,

I do ifeature from scratch. I don't undestand why it doesn't run.

Thanks for your support.

I don't know. From scratch I mean - start a new file completely. And go from there.
