Idea for Sensor Mounting?

Hi everyone,

I know this is not IV related, so I'm happy to close the thread if it causes friction. But I thought given the amount of different expertise present on this forum it won't hurt to try!

I am currently trying to come up with an idea of how to mount a proximity sensor to read the revolutions of a pulley that is connected to a motor on a oscillating base. (Drive Side)

There are drive guards sitting around the pulleys and belt, so the initial idea was to mount it on that but the difficulty comes into taking into account that the base might shift left to keep tension on the belt but then the sensor wont be in an accurate position anymore, so I'm trying to think of something that can accommodate a shift in the motor base.

Any ideas are welcome! Just looking for advice and some sound boards. I have attached a brief sketch of the setup.

Yes, better put this question on an engineersforum.

What about an encoder on the drum?

Hi Tobias,

Thanks for recommending the engineering forum. I will definitely make use of it.

We came right! We made a BRK to attach to our guards.
