Hi,

Do you mean, how to add the welds to these parts?

Hi! You need to change the sheet metal thickness setting first. Open the part and go to Manage -> Styles Editor -> Sheet Metal Rules -> set thickness to 2mm.

Many thanks!

Hi, you will need to choose which joins of faces will be corners and which will be bends.

In the sheetmetal tab, use the corner seam tool and sheet metal defaults to apply the corners. This will split up the shell into faces.

Then use the bend tool on face joins if you require the model to be unfolded.

There are at least a half dozen different ways to do this depending on what you want for corner seams.

Attached is one example...

Autodesk AutoCAD 2013 Certified Professional

Hi! Before you can add flanges, you will need to rip the corners and apply bends accordingly. Use Corner Seam -> Rip workflow to break up the faces. Then either add flanges or bends to make it a sheet metal part.

Many thanks!

Hi! Inventor Corner Seam works best for two bends or three bends intersection. When you have more than three bends, the command may not yield good result. Let me take a look at the files and see how I can help.

Many thanks!

Hi! For this particular case, I don't believe Shell is the best approach. It is because there are a few multi-bend intersections difficult to deal with. Also, the hollowed part requires you to rip the edges and then create bends. Each edge requires at least two steps.

Instead of using a hollowed part, I like to start with a surface model (zero offset). Then find the logical continuous faces. Thicken it as the main sheet metal body. Add bends to the sharp corners. The rest is opportunistic. You can either use an offset profile and make it a Face. Or, use Thicken to create another body.

Please take a look at the attached part. I think it can provide some clues.

Many thanks!

Hi! Yes, Corner Seam should work here. Another way to do it is to use multi-edge flange auto-mitering workflow. You can select the two edges in Flange dialog. The corner will be mitered automatically.

Many thanks!

But I can't get the corner seam to work, how use I the multi-edge flange?

Thanks,

Hi! Sorry, I did not take a look at the part before commenting! The issue is a limitation. Corner Seam only works for flanges on the same body, not different bodies.

To make Corner Seam work for this case, you will need to combine the two bodies. Please take a look at attached part. I also need to create a small gap between the two faces. Otherwise, they will merge.

Many thanks!
