Our school rercently updated to Inventor 2014, When working starting a new assembly we seslect the standard mm ipt icon, however as soon as you create a new compont it defaults to inches, we can change the units using styles editor, but this only changes this componont when you create another part it also defaults to inches.
Can you change the setup so that it will always be in mm ta

Stevie,
What you are going to have to do is call up the part template itself and change the units in that template file to mm through the styles. If you do not have permissions to do this, you will have to find an admininstrator.

Hi!
Are you talking about to create a new part in the assembly context?
You can always chose the template you need...
Regards.
After correcting the units you might also Save As>Save Copy As Template and replace the Standard.ipt (not just the Standard(mm).ipt template) at the root of Templates.
Hi!
Are you already changed the Templates to mm here?
Regards.

A lot of unanswered questions here. I was going on the assumption that the school already had their own set of templates and they just needed to be changed. I agree that if they are indeed using the out of the box templates then the save as copy> template is in order.
Also, seeing how it is a school I have to ask if they are using 2014 and if so have their template been saved in the latest release?

In Inventor 2021 in the Assembly or Part Environment; Go to: (Tools); Application Options; File; Configure default template; Measurement Unit-Default. The change the template from inches to mm. In addition change: Drawing Standard-Default to ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
