how to place Fillet Weld on mitered corner of 2 rect. beam

I am trying to weld all around two 4x2x1/4 in a rectangle beam, but due to unknown reasons I am not able to do it and when I do it. it will do only one inned side of this frame. Please help me with this.Weld Miter Corners all around.jpg

Hi! That is a tough spot to weld. You probably need two separate Fillet Weld beads (one on each side). If it does not work, please share the files here and forum experts can take a look.

My guess is that the filet weld requires an inside corner angle. In your case, the weld will complete on the one inside corner. It won't complete on the top, bottom or outside corner. In real life, that weld would not be a filet weld all around, without an edge treatment.

A follow up: You can do this as a groove weld by adding a gap between the mitered faces. This is a groove weld applied to two mitered faces with a 1/8" gap in between. It's not a filet weld.
