How to display sketch features on model tree

How do you display sketch features in the model tree? For example, if a sketch has a rectangular pattern, how can I display the feature within the sketch in the model tree, and edit it as necessary?

Hi lauren.ji,

To edit a sketch pattern, right click on one of the patterned elements and choose Edit Pattern.

Note too that it is generally recommended to sketch one element, make it a feature, then pattern the feature rather than pattern as a sketch element.

Hi lauren.ji,

Features consume sketches, sketches do not consume features. So I'm not understanding the question.

Can you clarify what you're attempting to do, and/or as TheCADWhisperer suggested, post an example file ( and mention which version of Inventor you're using) or maybe some screen shots?

Unless you set a "Sketch" to be "Shared", it is "Consumed" with the first Feature that is created. Basically a One Sketch for One Feature, unless you specifically set the Properties of the Sketch to be Shared. By expanding the "Feature" in the Model Browser Tree, you can see which Sketch the Feature has consumed.

Let's call them sketch elements instead of features, so as to avoid confusion with part features.  Sketch geometry doesn't display in the browser at all.  When you edit a sketch, you see everything that makes up the sketch.  As @Curtis_Waguespack pointed out, a sketch pattern (which should be used very rarely) can be edited (or deleted) by right clicking on any element of the pattern and selecting Edit Pattern (or Delete Pattern).

Pretty much everything in a sketch is edited in the sketch, so there's nothing to display in the browser.

For that example of a sketch pattern you can't.. There is no functionality in Inventor to show in a model browser that a rectangular pattern was used in a sketch..

You can tell if a sketch is

-fully constrained (push pin added to sketch icon)

-adaptive (arrow added to sketch icon)

-shared (hand added to sketch icon)

-has errors (circle/exclamation added to icon)

-a 3d sketch (different icon)

-used Projected loops (another icon added under the sketch)

-used Helical curves (anothoer spring like icon)

-used equation curve used I think..

-maybe a few more but I think thats about it.. and I may have gotten some incorrect as I'm going from memory here..
