How to create a completely independent copy of a project with adaptive parts

Hi everyone,
I'm working on a project in Autodesk Inventor that includes several adaptive parts. I'd like to create a copy of the entire project, but I need this new copy to be completely independent of the original — no references, no dependencies, and no relationships between the two.

Basically, I want to:

  • Duplicate the whole project (assemblies, parts, drawings)

  • Make sure changes in the new copy don’t affect the original (and vice versa)

  • Keep the adaptive functionality in the copied parts, if possible

What’s the best way to achieve this? Should I use Pack and Go or some other method? Do I need to manually rename every file or reset adaptivity in the new copy?

Any advice, steps, or things to watch out for would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! Unfortunately, there isn't a straight forward workflow to swap or replace the adaptive source. This is like incomplete implementation. Also the adaptive source reference is managed different than other reference like Derive or Link. An adaptive relationship can be one to many and the relationship is only meaningful in the context of the hosting assembly where such relationship was established.

The only workflow that I am aware to replace the adaptive source is to rename the original source file so that it cannot be found by Inventor. Then resolve to the new source when you open the assembly.

Many thanks!
