IIRC in Solid Works these are called "reference geometry" and when you click on "Lines" the have regular solid lines, maybe arcs and splines, but also a DOTTED line. You use the dotted line for stuff like line to Mirror around, but unlike in Inventor you don't need to trim the mirror line, because in SWs its not considered a "real" line in the sketch.
Pardon such a basic question. I KNOW I've used it before, just getting back into Inventor and CAD after couple years break.
