I have an external application at Inventor that I must work i network location M:/. In this external application have I some trouble that I don’t have when I am working in  C:/. I have concluded that if I can delete the .lck file, I solve the problem 🙂

Hi! The existence of .lck file is to prevent another application from editing the file, when Inventor is editing it. I am not sure deleting the file will benefit anything. Are you trying to edit the file when Inventor is editing it? You can open the file but you cannot edit it. It will lead to file corruption.

Could you elaborate what you are trying to do?

Many thanks!

Hello, after changing workstations and update to version 2020, the security lock(.lck) for files that are already open no longer works. I see the lock file created. Its interior is empty.
What advice do you give us? What checks should we do? Thanks

Hi Roberto,

.lck file is indeed empty. It is there to let Inventor know that the file is already opened by Inventor. It does not block another Inventor session to open the same file. But, whoever has the .lck can save the file.

Many thanks!

##- Hi, sorry but I don't understand.
You tell me that the .lck file is used by Inventor to find out if the file is open. Then?
But if I open an .idw file first and then a colleague of mine opens the same file, is there no security warning?
We had it from 2008 to 2019. We are 5 people in the office, and all 5 remember this function.
So I ask you why with the 2020 version and with new workstations this warning no longer occurs.
Thanks if you can help us. -##

Hi! Opening files in multiple sessions is fine. It is about saving. .lck file prevents another session to save the same file.

Many thanks!
