Looking at a new notebook and got my eyes on a Precision M3800 with the 3200 X 1800 resolution.
Is anyone using a high resolution display with Inventor? How are the fonts rendered?
What Inventor version?
Mine is IV2010 Professional.
Thanks in advance.
I'm using a monitor which can support the biggest resolution 2048x1024, my Inventor works well with such resolution and the text shows smooth and precise enough.
My current Inventor version is Inventor 2015 release.
Thanks,
-Lisa
I use a HPz30 that runs native at 2560 x 1600 with no problems.
I am currently typing this on my Dell Precision M3800 with the 3200x1800 resolution. I have not used Inventor, however I use Maya, 3DS Max, and Mudbox, and NONE of them scale properly. They are all different though. For instance, in Mudbox, everything is the right size but very pixelated and lots of text is cut off by the UI. In Maya, everything is microscopic. The only thing to do (as far as I can tell, having not found a single solution in these labrynthine forums) is to reduce the overall resolution in windows to 1080p. Which makes everything foggy. Also, even if you were able to handle UI buttons that are smaller than an ant (literally) the Nvidia Quadro K1100m still has a difficult time presenting any 3D object in realtime at the 1800 res. (It handles 1080p fine.) It's a great notebook, but just know that it is very likely you are going to have to perform resolution gymnastics to get a decent experience on any monitor with that high res of a screen. Hope this helps.
I am currently typing this on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13" using 3200x1800 resolution. I don't use Inventor as much as I do AutoCAD and Revit, and I still haven't found a way to control display elements exactly the way I want. In particular, I find the minimum text size of some items way too small and impossible to control.
My theory is that Autodesk takes control of the display of some text elements, independently from the Operating System (OS) without allowing for a way to modify, something which is very un-Autodesk-like.
Overall, the two best solutions are as follows:
1. To set the an overall scaling factor to 150%. If you make it greater, programs like Revit misbehave.
2. Otherwise, change the size of all items to the middle of the slide bar.
This computer model supports realtime zooming and panning. Try to see if your computer does, too. Type Win + "+" or "-" to zoom in or out. If thsi key sequence does not work, then try to run the "Magnifier" manually and use full screen mode.
Most software isn't ready for high pixel density displays. Developers seem to incorrectly assume that with higher resolutions come larger screens, but that isn't always the case. Right now I'm using Windows Internet Explorer and everything looks fine except the URL edit box and tab titles. Both are too tiny and can't be scaled up. The actual websites you can scale up or dow using Ctrl + "+" or "-"
Looks like we'll have to wait until Release 2016 or later to be able to control everything from icons to text, etc. to the way we want exactly.
Warm regards from LA,
Emmanuel
Inventor works fine with High Rez displays. However, the challenge is making specific elements larger or smaller. It seems the programs aren't quite ready to give the user that level of control.
I have a dell xps with Revit 2016. sadly, it still hasn't been fixed
There is an alternative work around that allows the high res display to work in windows 10. As mentioned above, the problem is related to screen scaling. This is how I do it.
1.Change to a screen resolution lower than 2000 eg.1600x900
2.sign out and in again
3. Open revit and change your screen res back to a high res. It will work and you'll be able to see your project
For me switching the screen scaling down to 150% makes buttons really difficult to see.
Autodesk really should release an update that enables the programme to understand windows display scaling properly. This is a really annoying bug in Revit and its been around for ages.
I have just got the Dell Precision 5510 and have the same problem with Inventor. I'm running Windows 10 as well so maybe thats a factor for me. The worst thing is the view controls (not shown in my screen shot) in the top right corner of the viewer.
I find when I plug into an external monitor I can get things working ok. Which is what I do during the day at work but when working off site its a real pain.
I'm hoping updates for Windows 10/Inventor/Dell will solve the problem!
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for reporting this issue.
The issue has been fixed in the Inventor 2017 version, now Inventor 2017 display much better with high resolution display(e.g 4K display), most of the high resolution display issues have been fixed in R2017.
But to 2016, the change is too big and could not be back-ported to 2016.
Could you have a try with Inventor 2017 build?
Thanks,
Joyce
