Having problems with setting up our own content center

Hello,

We are working with Inventor 2018 professional. In here we have created our own content center.

I've copied the content center ISO and DIN to our own content center, so the files are editable.

Now we have problems using the parts. When we place them in assembly's and put the assembly on a drawing.

In the partslist from the assembly there is the row 'Description' in this field i want to show the 'ISO 4017 M8 x 30'.

I've managed to chage the part number to our own part number. But after the many things i've tried, the description stays the same and doesn't change to what i want it to be.

Next to Inventor 2018 Professional, we're working with Vault Basic. All the content center files, when placed in an assembly, are also being checked in into Vault in a library.

I've tried to add a row in the content center excel sheet with the name 'Description', after that link it to 'project:Description'. This works when i open a new assembly. In the new assembly when i go to the iproperties, the description has chaged to what i want it to be.

But when i do this with an assembly that i checked out from vault, the part doesn't update or change. And after this, when i place that content center part in a new assembly it's back to it's original content.

What can we do about this?

Regards,

Marco de Vries

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

When a content center part is placed into the assembly it never goes back to look at content center.  If you make changes in content center, changes are not automatically updated because it always looks at the local copy.  So in your assembly you need to perform refresh standard components after you save your assembly.

Also you may want to review this article https://synergiscadblog.com/2014/02/28/working-with-inventor-content-center-part-1-of-3/ for additional info in how it works.  One more thing.   In that article it talks about an application options setting to refresh standard component on placement.  However this appears to no longer work properly in newer versions of Inventor (and Autodesk is looking into it).

I understand that i need to go to manage and then press Refresh, but when i do that it shows me this screen.

Error inventor.PNG

In additional information. The cc part i've changed does work when i place it in a new assembly. The data i changed stays the same. But when i insert that same part into an assembly that already existed in vault, the cc part resets itself. So the data i've changed goes back to it's original..

I've been fighting with this for about a week now, and it didn't make any progress.. The part number does change, whereever i place the cc part. But the property 'Description' goed back to it's original.

That's wat i don't understand, part number does change, description doesn't.

Hi Marco,

This is pretty much the same scenario I had.

I'm not sure how much of this you have done already, but this helped me resolve any issues I had and I have it running smoothly now..

Hi,

As has been wrote, PartNumber is driven by FamilyTable, Column which is mapped to PartNumber, mostly Part Number - PartNumberMapp.jpg

But there some family properties mapping as well - DescriptionMapp.png.

So for PartNumber modify table, for Project.Description modify family description. To refresh content center parts already placed in assembly use Manage tab - > Refresh

Also verify, when you define new PartNumber (modify its formula), make sure it is changed. Because there can be override/overwrite which overchanges formula. So delete cell value (it gets yellow). Make sure yellow field has value you want/expect - OverWrite.jpg
