Harness - Bending wire/segments?

I have an awkward run that was handled quite simply using segments. Segments were drawn straight as point A to B, continue, B to C, continues, etc. This generates pointed corners throughout the run.

It seems if i draw the segment from a to b to c all the way to f that it creates a giant spline where you have little control over the curvature. I'm basically trying to run through a series of cable trays and would like to see straight runs with rounded corners. Not free form bsplines. The only thing that comes to mind is adding a bunch of points in the corners to do manual bends and that's not really prudent.

Is there any way to round the corners something similar to what you get if you put a fillet between them? Or like an added bend inside a 3d sketch?

Edit the harness..

Go to harness settings.. Wires/Cables tab.. Check "Without Natural Curvature" vs "With"

Thats really it..

I tried that and saw next to no difference.

My points are, at the shortest, about 16" apart, which gives the freeform curve lots of room to bend...would prefer a tight corner, so to speak. And in this case, we're talking maybe a 1-2" radius. I'll try the setting again though. Can't do worse than no change 🙂

Edit: It is what i figured, no change. So, when you attach a wire to a segment, it's just 100% rigid to that segment? No exceptions?

If you tried it and saw any difference then it working and thats it..

More points is really all you can do now..

Given the route, extra points aren't practical as i'd spend way too much time calculating where they went. Be nice if, like tube/pipe you could export the route to a 3D sketch - then you could bend it in there....

yep... Cable/Harness leaves a lot to be desired..

My understanding is that you and I and a few other people are the only users so it gets $0 development dollars..

It hasn't been updated in YEARS..

I still use it, though admittedly, it's been years since I used it for process-plant level instrumentation.

These days, it's mostly small control cabinets.

@jscavuzzo

In the model browser right click on the harness and select edit.. Then right click on that again and select "Harness Settings".. And if you open your harness.iam template file located in the Style Library/Cable&Harness/en-US folder where your Design Data is located you can have that set to always be selected for new harnesses

Your image didn't come through and your text isn't sufficient for me to determine what issue you may be having..

Please use the web forum if you are trying to attach images and not a newsreader client or whatever if you are using one..

@jscavuzzo  It looks like you haven't "authored" the connectors yet to define the outward cable direction..

Please do this..

In this case, no connectors are used, the cable enters the terminal directly. Is it possible to generate connection points without having connectors?

@jscavuzzo

The part that you added the pins (points) to is what you need to author to define the wire direction.

You need to author that as shown in the instructions provided above..

You may call it a terminal a connector or a baseball bat 😁 It doesn't matter.. It needs to be authored per the instructions above to allow the natural curvature/proper wire exit direction..
