Guide Rail Intersections of Loft Create Bulge in Surface

Hi all

I've attached some images to show a model I'm working on, and where the guide rails terminate at the end of the loft it creates a tiny bulge. This bulge is an anomaly in the otherwise smooth surface and is preventing me from filleting the top edges. I've spent over 8 hours now playing around with it without success.

Can anyone give me some insight as to why this is happening, do I need to change the shape of my guide rails, or can you point out the underlying cause?

I've attached a file for Inventor 2018 in case you need to see clearer, I realise the images don't show it well.

Kind Regards,

Phillip

I will be honest, I cannot find the "bulge" you speak of probably because I do not know where to look exactly.  You did not identify the top edges so I cannot try to fillet the edges you desire.  So what I did was to fillet the whole feature without issue.  So in my opinion, all edges will fillet.  I will admit I used a 2mm fillet but any larger that some edges intersect.  I have attached the part I filleted.

If you would markup a screenshot identifying the edges you want to fillet may help others.

Hi Xun.Zhang

Yes, that's what I was trying to have done, that tiny bulge has disappeared thank you. I see what you did, a nice simple solution by adding in that extra guide near to the end to straighten out the surface.

Hi

Thanks for your help. I did want to upload more images but I had a limit of 3 attachments. The bulge is hard to see, unfortunately, in the Side Shaded image I ringed it in red - it's easier to see with the view set to Realistic, as the shadows give it away.

I admit I didn't try a feature fillet, and you're correct it does work. I'm not sure why a feature fillet works on edges that don't work individually, but you've helped me gain some insight here and I'll play around with it a bit.

Thanks,

Phillip
