Inventor: Cannot create Grill feature

Hi,

I would like to create a grid pattern on a rectangular object. I followed this video explaining how to use the grill function and the rectangular pattern function as well for my design.

So far I have successfully created duplicates of this design, but now I ran into some issues now for some reason.

Whenever I go to this step now (as shown in picture labeled 1) where I have created the pattern, I can't select my boundary now for some reason. Yet, when I create my boundary only (no pattern), I am able to use the grill function.

What is going on here and how can I fix it?

Thanks

Hi! I believe the problem is with Sketch23. The rectangle (boundary) has overlapped segments and also it is not properly constrained. I deleted it and recreated it with a new rectangle. It seems to work now. Please take a look at attached part.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Sorry about the late response. Are you able to describe as to why it wouldn't work in a little more depth? Whenever I try to create a rectangle on the same flat surface (removed the grill) the grill function won't work and I don't know what to do to fix it.

Thanks

Hi! It has been a while since I provided the solution. It could take some time for me to find out the difference. The quickest way to find out is to compare the part I attached to yours. It should not be too hard to find out.

Many thanks!

That's what I tried to do but I couldn't find any difference between the two.

I attached the model I'm trying to do. Even when I just create a rectangle  sketch initially on the surface, the grill function won't work so I can't see any constraint problems or overlapping segment problems mainly because I'm not sure what to look for exactly

Hi! Like I mentioned earlier, there are overlapped line segments. The square contains a small segment on top of it. Also one or two of the grill lines have similar overlapped segments too. You need to delete them. I simply deleted the square and deleted the short segment. Then recreate a square. Also you need to make sure you enter logical width and height for the Boundary and the Rib. That is all I did in the part I attached.

Many thanks!
