We are getting into more work with point clouds in Inventor 2017.  Our graphics cards seem to be struggling with displaying point cloud data. Here are some of our system specs.

Dell Precision T3600

Intel Xeon E5-1620 @ 3.6 GHz

32 GB RAM

NVIDIA Quadro 4000

I am looking for a solution that would be a substantial improvement for a budget of $1000 per machine.

Hi excler,

If you're having problems with your graphics card and you're on a limited budget, i'd suggest looking into GeForce cards instead of a Quadro ones.

It may not be advised, but I use a Quadro card in my workplace and a GeForce on my personal computer, and i hate to admit to my company but im getting better performance, even though i spent a third of the price!

The GeForce 1070 card is less than half the price of the Quadro 4000 and if you look at a GPU benchmark comparison you'll be blown away!

As inventor relies more on DirectX instead of OpenGL nowadays, gaming cards are definitely capable of handling the loads.

If this has helped you please accept this as a solution 🙂

Lewis.Young is right so if you have limited budget buy GTX Geforce card instead of Quadro card.
