Grain direction 2018 Different on bend

So I have grain direction on parts so engineers can have the grain going the right direction when designing and the drafters can double check flat pattern when making drawings and laser files..

But here I have the grain going horizontal on the face but now on bends it changes direction flat pattern shows right but drafters don't look at that unless the blank size numbers are wrong then they would double check with the part..

The blank size tells them grain direction 'BLANK 24 7/8 X <15 1/8>"   "< >" tells them grain direction..

Anyway to stop this?

Let me make sure that I have the problem statement correct.

You want to rotate the grain direction on the flange on folded part - correct?

That's all nice and all but my appearance is not in that drop down list. I have a post somewhere asking how I put my custom colors in that list but was told I believe it can't be done..

Just pick it up with the eye dropper.

All of this would be so much easier if you simply attached example *.ipt file here with question.

Hi James,

I believe it is doable. Go to the quick access bar at the top. There is a command called Adjust right next to Appearance dropdown. Click it and select a face of misaligned texture. You can rotate the texture 90 degree and it will be saved as a different appearance style. Please try it out and let me know how it works for you.

Many thanks!

I guess the issue is because it is a migrated part I don't get rotate option.

I made a new part to test and the bend has the grain going the right

Video of migrated part..

See attached.

This was rotated using the Adjust command & the resulting appearance applied to the 4 faces.

Thanks

Chris

That all cool but how did you get the rotate option?

I shown in video I don't get that option as JD explained in his video.

Hi James,

I think it is a bug. Although the style is migrated, the same set of option should be offered. I don't have good explanation. Interestingly, if you assign the part to a different material style and then assign it back to "304 #3 Finish", the Rotate option becomes available.

Many thanks!

Why do I always have to find the issues......

I tried your steps by removing the "304 #3 Finish" from part I put generic on it even deleted it from document then placed back in document and reassigned but still have no rotate. Unless I missed a step in there..

I always made it a rule if Inventor fails to install I don't install. This time I had issues I called Autodesk they took over my computer and ignored the errors and said I was good to go..

I have a feeling that is not the case.... I should stick to my rule..

@jletcher When using the Adjust tool the rotate selector typically should be visible in the window but I've noticed sometimes it isn't visible until you zoom out and find it.

I think the way it functions is to center the rotate selector at the center of the face selection boundary.

It sounds like something isn't working correctly on your end but when I open it up it seems to be working.

You can try to select the features from the tree to Adjust more faces at once.

Hope that helps!

@kelly.young

So has this been added to the issue tracker as even in your own video the issue pops up..

A "quick" test from me shows that the rotate selector element of the UI is not "bound" to the display screen limits like the rest of that UI is and it can slide right off screen..

That right there should be something that gets fixed..

@mcgyvr I'll forward to the development team regarding the issue tracker.

I see in @jletcher screencast that the behavior is not functional but it works fairly consistently on my machine.

I tried on the attached migrated part and it works, so if someone else can figure out how to recreate the issue that would be helpful to find a root cause.

A while ago @Neil_Cross enlightened me to the Adjust tool Fixing Textures, Overrides, Scale & Rotation | Autodesk Inventor made my life much easier!

Hope that helps!
