Getting True Frame Member Length

So I have been having some issues using the frame generator in inventor and trying to get the true length of a frame member when it is trimmed/coped into the corner of two other members. Some of the items are only an inch or so out which is fine as it is always longer but some frames I work with the generated length is up to a foot longer than the true length. Our BOM is auto populated with the length as the G_L of the beam so we are giving the shop incorrect raw cuts which is going to waste material. Is there some workflow I don't know about or am missing to make this correct? I am using the Trim/Extend command to get the members to the right length then I use the notch command when needed. It seems to be the trim/extend command that is causing the problem and pushing the start and finish work planes way out into space.

Hi Brandon,

 

The objective of the member length is indeed trying to show the minimum length needed to make the cut. It works generally fine when the cuts are straight forward. In some cases, when there are multiple trims and cuts, the length algorithm can get confused leading to unneeded extra length. We are aware of such cases and we are investigating how to improve it. Unfortunately, it won't be a fix to current and earlier releases of Inventor. Could you provide an example showing the behavior? I want to make sure that we capture the case.
