Frequent crashes with 2014 Inventor

Hello,

I have a problem with Inventor 2014 students. It crashes very freqntly. Sometimes its run for 2 hours and sometimes it crashes every three minutes. I searched for the problems. I updated Inventor on SP2 and all updates and hotfixes. But it didint help. Then I uninstalled Inventor clean and install it without a Antivirus. The crashes are still there.

I sent a few times the report to the support but I dont know what to do.

Maybe someone can help me here. I cant work very productive when I make all twice^^.

I use Asus Zenbook UX303 with a Intel i7 5500u with the onboard Graphic (latest update) and 8gb ram.

Windows 8.1

Welcome to the forum.

On the crashes, is your system able to submit the crash results to Autodesk? This is a great help in determining causes for your crash.

I would use something such as Ccleaner.com to clean all your Temp and Cache folders. It also has a Registry Clean/Fix tool as well that will clean up the Windows Registry.

Use the Windows Disk Defragmentation tool to clean up your HD. Enable the "Check Disk /f" option "Fix". This will require a restart of your system as it works at the level before Windows really loads. This allows full access to the Hard-Drive.

I'm not a big fan of on-board integrated graphics cards as then normally aren't up to Inventor.

Make sure that you "Save" your work on a regular basis.

Thanks for help. I downloaded CCleaner repair the errors in the registry and clean up cache and temp. A defragmentation isn't necessary because I have a ssd only.

I sent a report for a few minutes after a crash.

Yes the onboard Grapic isnt the best solution for Inventor but I needed a small Laptop for study.

Next time Inventor crashes and issues the CER (customer error dialog), select the dumpuserinfo.xml in the list and hover over it. It will tell you where that file is located and most likely it will be in the C:\Users\<user name.\AppData\Local\Temp folder.   Attach the file and I will take a look at it to see if I can determine a root cause of why its crashing.

It points to an issue (access violation) with C++ on your machine...  You may want to check your (Windows) event logs for additional information.

I searched in the event log for faults connecting with autodesk, but I cant find something. I saved the system protocol, but I cant attech this kind of file here.

In the event log arent critical faults.

At this point I would do the following:

1.  Make sure no application is running and clean out (delete as many files as possible) the following folders:

a.  C:\Windows\Temp

b.  C:\temp

c.  C:\User\<user name>\appdata\local\temp  (Appdata is a hidden folder).

2.  Launch Inventor again and see if it crashes.

If Inventor crashes again do the following:

1.  A clean uninstall: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/installation-activation-licensing/get-ready/remove-pr... of Inventor 2011.

2.  Uninstall all of the Microsoft Visual C++ <version> redistributable programs listed under Programs and Features.

3,  Make sure Anti-virus is off, you have full admin rights to your PC/registry, and turn off UAC (User Access Control).

4.  Next run the install again for Inventor 2014.

5.  At this time do not launch it and apply serive pack 1 (http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-in... for it.

6.  Launch Inventor and see if it crashes.

If you can provide the email address you are putting into the crash report, I can look up the reports in the database here to see if there's anything obviously wrong.

This might be a bit extream but a clean install of Windows has helped me in the past. Takes the best part of a day to back up your stuff etc but then you know you have the cleanst system possiable. Also im not sure how stable Inventor is with 8.1. Im sure its fine but I went back to Windows 7 in any case.

Constanly crashing Inventor is heart breaking. Good luck.
