Frame generator not working on 2022.1

Is anyone else having an issue with frame generator on Inventor 2022.1?

I can select the edges of the driving model or sketch feature, specify the section type and size to use and change the orientation of the section profile.

The preview shows what is happening correctly and when I select OK to proceed I am presented with the 'Create New Frame' window as normal. Select OK and the 'Frame Member Naming' window opens as normal showing all of the members that are going to be created.

Everything so far is ok but when I click OK to create the members nothing happens. The FG folders are created but no files. I've not used FG since installing 2022.1 update so is this a bug?

Hi Mike,

The behavior does not sound right. The first thing I would check is to make sure Content Center is working properly. Try inserting a structured shape from CC to an assembly. Does it work?

Next, make sure your project folder path is within 256-character limit.

Lastly, make sure you and Inventor has sufficient privilege to read and write to the folders. Try running Inventor as Admin.

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue

So I've inserted CC members into the same assembly file without issue, all is working fine there.

The folder path length is 50 characters in length

And yes, I have admin rights to the laptop too. I have also tried your last suggestion of running as Admin without success.

Any other suggestions?

I believe this is the first time I've tried FG since installing 2022.1. I will try uninstalling the update in the morning and see if that fixes the issue.

Hi Mike,

I just notice that the path you are saving is a Dropbox folder. Maybe you want to map the folder as a logical drive. See below related article for Revit.

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue

I tried editing an existing FG file this morning and everything worked fine but if I create a new assembly and use FG nothing happens.

Hi Mike,

Maybe there is something wrong with the File Naming Defaults. Try a test real quick for me. Use Inventor Reset Utility to reset all settings back to install default (you may want to back up UI customization). After that, does it work better?

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue

One of your colleagues on the support desk helped sort out the problem yesterday evening for me. He didn't know what had suddenly caused the problem with running the rest utility did fix it. Funnily enough, it broke again this morning after creating a new FG assembly. When I came to start a second new one it wouldn't work again so I have had to reset it again.

Hi Mike,

I guess you may have a system process altering some Inventor settings overnight. The behavior does not make sense to me. If it works, it should work persistently.

Many thanks!

I'm getting this same exact behavior with 2022.3.1.  Pretty much a fresh install.  So was there ever an actual solution to this issue?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Your issue may or may not be the same as the OP's. Please feel free to start a new thread or share an example that exhibits the behavior. Please note that the Frame subassembly created by Frame Generator is context-sensitive. This means that the editability is only available within the assembly where the Frame was originally created. If you repurpose the frame from a different assembly, the Frame members may not be edited using Frame Generator.

Many thanks!

So you didn't answer the question I asked.  Was this issue resolved for the OP?  It didn't sound like it.

Also, understood on frame gen.  I've been using it since its inception.  This is a fresh assembly/frame/skeleton.  I click through and after the last OK, nothing happens.  At all.  No error message, no frame members, nothing.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

I am sorry I don't recall the exact issue now. The description indicated it was related to Frame Gen not running properly randomly. But, we don't have a persistent issue that I am aware of. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the applicable Inventor updates are installed.

A few things to try.

1) Where are the Inventor files stored? Locally, on a network drive, or a cloud drive like OneDrive? Try saving it locally and see if it works.

2) Check Content Center settings. Try placing a structure shape from Content Center. Does it work?

3) Go to Project dialog -> Configure Content Center -> make sure the proper libraries have been included.

4) As a test, activate Default project. Then try creating a simple Frame Gen assembly. Does it work?

Many thanks!

As a word of continuation in the pursue of an answer regarding this problem. Switching to the default project and then back to the original one seems to get things back to normal for me here. Really annoying.

Also, I know this is not the right place to do so, but a I'd like nonetheless to demand a "save and close everything" in a single click in a future release. That would help a lot.

Hi Dominic

The save and close all is hidden under the file menu and you can always add it to a ribbon through the customization option when RMB clicking on a ribbon menu and picking Customize User Commands

Hi,

what I found is that the problem occurs when Standard.iam contains more Model States than Master. This is resolved in 2023.

My frame generator does absolutely nothing, it shows everything in the preview, but when you cklick OK, everythings dissapears. It does not even show the frame generator icon in the model tree, so nothing gets done.

Hi! This is probably related to where the FG files are stored. Where is the folder located? Try inserting a structure shape from Content Center to the assembly. Does it work?

Many thanks!
