Frame-analysis: Release for crossing beams

Hello

 

When I import the I-beam with a channel crossing at the bottom of the beam, I get automatic rigid connections as below. In reality, there will be clamps to attach the channels onto bottom of the I-beam. 

Is there a way to make a release connection between the crossing parts.

or is there a way for workaround?

Normally the clamps will be treat as rigid.

If not, another connecting method is required.

Any reason for you to believe the clamps will fail?

 

Now if you want to run sim on clamps, you should model the clamps.

Thank you so much for the reply.

The clamps won't fail. 

However, the rigid connection is through only one node between channels and the beam.

I think that's why I have 0.7 in of displacement.

In reality, there will be 4 clamps, for another simulation, I put 4 custom constraints around the locations where the I-beam is assembled to without I-beam. In this case, the displacement is somewhere I expected. 0.03in.

What I am interested in is the stress in the I-beam though.

Usually I don't use the Frame (point and stick) Analysis.

I use FEA. There are options to set different contact between parts. Also work with non-frame parts.

 

Most important is get to know the analysis and verify it with real results.
