File Copy Error On Save

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

At my company, we are experiencing a problem while saving our work.

When we try to save our assemblies (or sometimes single piece) to our network location, the save fails with this error message : File Copy Error On Save.

After that the computer has lost the connection to the network drive. (all other network drive are still there but not the drive with the inventor files).

We need to disable/enable the network card to have the network drive back.

This doesn't happen on all files. At fist it occured on main machines assemblies and not sub assemblies but now it happens also on single files.

We saw, that while saving, it creates a .newver file and it seems that it crashes during or before rename.

I don't know if the lost network drive access is the cause or the consequence of the save.

We thought it was related to network rights so we asked our IT to grant us "Total control" over the inventor directory but this doesn't solved the problem.

Up to now we get back the network and rename manually the .newver files to get back our modifications but this is occurring every time on more and more files. We could try to save on local drive and upload to the network regularly but this is only a temporary solution (and we could forget some saves and lose work).

Any advice on how to solve this problem will be welcomed.

Regards

Is the network location using a mapped drive letter?

Yes the network drive is mapped to a letter (W).

We tried to use the ip adress of the drive (\\xxx.xx.xx.xx\MainFolder\SubFolder\InventorFolder\) and the network name (\\server3\MainFolder\SubFolder\InventorFolder\) but the result is the same.

For example if we use the ip and the problem occurs, we lose the connection to the drive (saying we don't have permissions to use it) but we can create a connection using the server name. We can get back the connection when we disable enable the network adapter.

This problem occurs only whith inventor and not with other software.

Please post your Inventor version and your workstation and network operating system and version.

I assume you are not using Vault.

We have had issues at times using mapped drives, but not recently.

We are on Inventor 2019.1.2 here.

When you changed to using the UNC path, did you change that in the project file?
We changed the UNC path here and that seemed to fix the issue.
Other than that I would have to say it sounds like a network issue.

I tried to change for UNC path in the project too and this didn't solved the problem.

I also think it's a network configuration issue.

My hope was that maybe someone could provide me some clues that I could give to our IT dep.

They know the problem but unfortunately it's not on their top priority list.

Thanks for your help. I'll post here if we find a solution.

I have exactly the same behaviour with my Inventor. No clue why it is not working anymore. Working like this is very annoying.

Hi! Could you try cleaning up temp folder? Go to File Explorer -> %temp% -> delete as many files as you can. Or, run Disk Management tool to purge the cached temp files.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Temp folder cleanup method didn't work.

Our IT changed some network card on the server side as they got some error messages but from my side it's still not working.

We had some DCOM error messages on our computers so I made some modifications found on microsoft's forums.

These solved my DCOM error messages (no more messages) but I still lose the network drive access while saving inventor files or assemblies.

My problem is solved. “Kaspersky Security 10 for Windows Server” includes a crypto module to detect encription viruses. The Kaspersky thought that my Inventor is a virus and blocked all network drives....
