FEMAP W/ NX Nastran Conversion into Inventor

I have a coworker that creates models using the above mentioned software.  I personally know nothing about its functionality.  What I do know is he exports out the assembly models as step files and it creates a single files for every part (meaning if the same part is used 12x, 12 different file named parts) and each is a dumb solid.  

I end up recreating each part with features and smarts.

My question is if anyone knows if there is a setting within his software that would allow these models to export a little more cleanly.

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram
Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB
Inventor Pro 2018

You can look at the Feature Recognition Tool within the Inventor Apps store. This should help with some of the features. He should check his export settings. I get many models from venders and their models import fine with the reuse of the same parts.
