Does Inventor have a maximum feature count?

I am using Inventor 2016 (don't ask company is upgrading at some point!!) and I have a building which has many features, all of a sudden I am creating cuts and inventor is no longer cutting these commands.

the model is of a large concrete building including foundations so lots of different features.

I have no idea if there is a limit to the number of features, but I doubt it.  Just curious, how big is the file (in bytes)?

One other thing occurs to me: is it possible that you used Delete Face, and the model is now a surface body instead of a solid body?  That would make many features unusable, including Extrude/Cut.

I hesitate to suggest it, but if you could post the file here or give us a link to a cloud location, someone may be able to diagnose the problem.

The model is 3,714 kb so not exactly massive by any means.

The model is still a solid model.

Right, it's not a massive model.  If you post it here, I will try to figure out what's happening.

Manage>Rebuild All

Any issues reported?

Any unresolved issues indicated in the sketch/feature browser?

Screenshot of expanded browser?

Actual file?

All sketches fully defined?

Patterned features rather than sketch elements?

Robust modeling techniques?

All sketches are fully defined been modeling for 20+ years so know what I'm doing there!!

I'm afraid I can't share model, I know it's a pain....

Other features have also produced a line when its merged on creation even though edges have been used as ref

I'm at a loss.....

That error message has often proved frustrating to me, and it has almost always turned out to be a "Doh!" moment when I realize what I was doing wrong.  One example I can think of, and probably the most common in my experience, is picking (or Inventor assuming for me) the wrong solid body for the feature to be applied to, so that it doesn't, in fact, change anything at all, just as the error message indicates.

In any case, I expect it's not a feature count limitation, but you and Inventor not understanding each other in this file at this time.  Need to see a counselor...

Is your building a single part, or an assembly of different parts?

Do any of the parts exceed the maximum part size of a cube +-100 meters from the origin?  If so, the model may have unexpected behaviors.

See: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Invento...

Hi! The error indicates that the new Extrusion does not generate new faces/edges. Please share the file here or send it to me directly [email protected]. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!
