Failing to enter Studio Environment

Hi All,

I'm tying out Inventor for the first time on a side project I'm working on right now (previous Solid Edge / Solid Works user) . I have an Academic Student copy of Inventor Pro 2019.  Everything was going fine until I discovered the hell known as Inventor Studio.

To keep a long story short, I have an assembly I have been animating through Studio. The assembly file has around 750 parts in it. I have been successfully building my animation until about 3 hours ago when Inventor stopped responding and crashed. On reboot everything is fine and works normal, except this assembly will no longer open in Studio.

  • Studio works fine on other assemblies and parts files.
  • The problem assembly file can be modified in the modelling and assembly environments.
  • For the problem file only; when Studio environment is clicked the software gets stuck on "Executing enter studio environment" and will not progress. After some time, Inventor will stop responding and crash or need force-closed.

So how to fix this? Or alternatively, is there a better software within the Autodesk Student licence that can handle assembly animations with this many component parts with stability?

I'm just looking to do simple stuff like grouped linear motion, fades etc to show how a system of parts assembles so full on animation studios seems a little overkill.

All advice is much apprecated!

Can you Attach your assembly here?

I can't do that really. Even though it's a side project, it's likely to become part of my doctoral research so I can't have the system in the public domain before publishing papers. In hindsight it's a silly choice for trying studio for the first time.

I'm going to try opening the file on another copy of inventor student to confirm that the problem is related to the assebly file - I'll update here with the results of that.

I am thinking of a process of Demote/Promote.

Hi! Based on your description, it sounds like the assembly is corrupted. Possibly the Studio data stored in the assembly file is corrupted. Without seeing the actual files, it is hard to comment further.

Like JD mentioned, you may want to use Demote workflow to create a new assembly (select all components -> right-click -> Components -> Demote). Open the subassembly and enter the Studio environment. Does it work?

Many thanks!

The demote solution has me back up and running. Much appreciated to both of you for the solution.

I have to say as a newcomer to Inventor, the software is very intuitive powerful, but the Studio environment is dissapointing to say the least. A shame.

Thanks again!
