Extrude Cut - Option not displaying in Inventor 2025

I'm trying to make an extrude cut in the dome of this nail, as assigned to me in my solidworks lab. For some reason, when I try to extrude cut the rectangle, the option to cut is not displaying. What could it be? What do I do?

step1. I made the nail with a dome top

step2. I made the rectangular sketch on the XY plane that I wanted to extrude cut

step 3. I tried to extrude cut, but the option isn't displaying under the output panel as expected.

this is what my professor told me to do, but the option isn't even there

this is the assigned task

Could someone please assist? My assignment is past due 😞

Hi

You can't cut because there's nothing to cut from. This is a surface model, not a solid (you can also see this from the folders in the browser). If you change the surface to a solid, you'll be able to cut geometry in the solid.

Delete the revolve operation, do it again, and change the mode in the dialog box in the upper right corner.

Hi, try double clicking the 'revolution1' to edit

Then click the orange icon in the top right to switch to solid

It could have been created as a surface body due to a non-closed sketch.  Inventor cannot create a solid body unless the operation defines a completely enclosed volume.  If a sketch for a revolve feature isn't completely closed, the only possible result is a surface body.  If you post your part file, we should be able to diagnose the issue pretty quickly.
