Exporting animation from one Inventor file to another

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to export an animation from one assembly file to another, where the second file has all the same names of each assembly, the only thing changing is the structure of each assembly (ex: Assembly1 has one pipe and valve in the first file but one pipe and two valves in the second file, but still named Assembly1).

This way the user can have multiple files with the same animation without having to do it over again, but still show it in older vs newer versions of the file.

Thank you.

It depends.  I am not aware of a direct tool to export an animation from one assembly to another.

However, if you define an animation with Inventor Studio in an assembly, and then save a copy of that assembly, then the copy will have that Studio information too.

If your animation was made in a presentation file, you can copy the ipn file and use the file rename trick to point the copied ipn at a new source assembly file.  It may keep the animation information info.  This will work best if the new assembly is a copy of the old assembly.

In either case, you will have a start on the animation.  I expect that there will be some manual work to refine and adjust the copied animation in the new assembly.  Also, the resulting animations will be independent from each other.  If a change is required in both animations it will have to be manually made in each file.

What happens if you place that which is common as sub-assemblies in Older assembly and Newer assembly files?

Hi! If you already have the new assembly, I am not aware of a workflow transferring one animation to another. But, you can use Copy Design workflow (iLogic Design Copy or Design Assistant or Vault Copy Design) to replicate the entire assembly along with the animation. Then you can edit the new assembly independently.

Many thanks!
