Export PDF From Within Inventor Produces Blank Sheet

Hi,

I tried to export a drawing from Inventor by clicking - File / Export / Pdf which just produces a blank sheet - I've never seen this before. I've done this thousands of times with no issues until I installed the latest edition of Inventor (2019) and have now discovered this problem. If I click File / Print / Pdf it works and I can see the drawing on the new pdf. However, if I choose to combine at least two pdf drawings they just go blank again! Also, if I open the new pdf's I've just created (through the File / Print / Pdf procedure) which I initially could see on the screen, they go blank again!

Anyone else having these issues? How do I fix this? I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 which I know is old now but its been fine up till now.

Regards,

Vinny

Not helpful for your situation, I know, but I have not had any such problem with Inventor 2019.  I have exported single sheet and 2-sheet drawings, no issues.  FWIW, I don't have Acrobat installed on my computer, just Reader.

Hi Vinny,

Does it happen to specific files or pretty much any drawing? Do you have iLogic rules associated with these drawings? Could you try using Inventor Reset Utility (All Programs -> Autodesk -> Autodesk Inventor Pro 2019 -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility)? It will reset all the settings back to install default, including any customization.

Many thanks!

Hello @Anonymous is the .pdf file opening in an Internet browser like Firefox or Chrome instead of your PDF software?

Are you able to open the .pdf directly from within Adobe Acrobat instead of double clicking the File Icon from Explorer?

Hello @Anonymous were you able to get your pdf to print like you wanted?

Did it keep opening in the Internet Browser instead of Reader?

Hi Kelly,

No, export to pdf doesn't work, it just comes out as a totally blank sheet. Very strange as I've never had this problem before.

However, if I click File / Print / Pdf then it works but the renderings in the drawings are not shaded properly either.

I don't know whats wrong with it but I gave up in the end.

Cheers

Vinny

...by the way, it opens in acrobat - not a browser.

@Anonymous thanks for reporting back, that is odd. Were you able to try the Reset Utility or Repair Install incase something got installed incorrectly?

With issues happening on the print to pdf as well something seems awry. If you feel like documenting further with screencast that could be helpful.

Hi Kelly,

Seems like its an Inventor issue as I've just tried doing the same thing through autocad and it worked fine!

Hi! Could you try two things for me? Export the drawing as DWF (not DWG). Is it also blank? Could you check and see if you have .Net 4.7 installed?

Many thanks!

Hi,

I've just exported it as a DWF and it worked.

Doesn't look like I have .NET 4.7 either.

Cheers

Vinny

Hi! This is interesting. The way the drawing is exported to PDF is quite similar to DWF. In theory, either both work or both fail. I assume you are on Windows 10. Could you follow the instruction to install .Net 4.7?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/on-windows-10

Many thanks!

I'm actually on Windows 7.

What does .NET 4.7 do?

Hello @Anonymous is the drawing an inventor.idw, inventor.dwg, or autocad.dwg?

If it is a .dwg type can you re-save as an .idw and try to export again?

The System Requirements show .Net 4.7 Framework for Inventor 2019.

Can you strip out any proprietary info from the drawing and attach the files here for further inspection?

I Kelly,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've just discovered that the file has been corrupted in some way.

I managed to get it to work on a brand new drawing template, so happy days!

Cheers anyway,

Vinny
