Error Placing 2019 component in 2020 Assembly "Invalid Stoul Argument"

Switched from 2019 to 2020 and files open fine, but when I try to place a component I get "Serious Error - invalid stoul argument". Anyone else having this issue?

I've tried opening the part or assembly and saving before placing and still nothing. I also tried searching that error description and noting points back to inventor.Invalid Stoul.JPG

It would appear that this issue is being investigated.  Doesn't help you in the here and now I know.

Are there some macro associated with this file you are trying to insert?

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram
Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB

As for the macro, I don't believe so. I've never worked with anything using macros in inventor that I am aware of.

It did allow me to create a new assembly and place a component (same one that gave the error). So I guess the work around they suggested is good. Small inconvenience, but at least the components are usable still. I was worried that I would have to recreate all of my commonly used files.

I only asked about the macros because in researching this error, it seemed like it might have been linked to C++ or other macro type software.

I am glad for now the work around they suggested works for you.  At least it is an out.  Smiley Happy

**UPDATE**

The "work around" is junk. It works for the first component added, but after that it has the same error and also after you save. Then if you try to insert that component into a new assembly it has the error as well. I am thinking about uninstalling and going back to 2019. Kind of dead in the water here. Don't want to draw everything again.

That doesn't make any sense why it would work for just the first component and not the balance.

Maybe one of the Autodesk guys can chime in like @johnsonshiue

Hi Guys,

This is a bug, INVGEN-29073. I checked the status. It is confirmed fixed in the coming 2020.1 Update, which will be available soon.

Many thanks!

I have this error as well, so I ask with some interest and no little concern:

  • When, exactly, will the update be available, and how will those of us in the outer darkness be informed that it is available?
  • There are at least two kinds of fixes: A) it will not re-occur, B) the program will automagically repair assemblies that previously failed with this error. Will this update 'fix' things in both ways, or only the first?

The update is undergoing final stage of validation. It should be available soon.

Many thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to answer. And my apologies, but at the same time somehow I don't feel like I know anything more than I did before I asked.

How about this, with regard to timing: will you please post in response to this thread when the update is released? The OP (BullionQFUA5) and I will get notification of that response.

Second, do forgive my repetition in return, but will the update fix existing "Invalid stoul" errors, or not?

d.

Hi David,

Yes, absolutely, the defect will be fixed in the coming 2020.1 update. The error message should not appear in any existing file or newly placed file. I cannot comment when exactly the update will be released. But, it is soon.

Many thanks!

Hi Rudy,

I hope you don't mind I reply in English. This defect should have been fixed on the latest update to 2021 and 2020. What release of Inventor are you running?

Many thanks!
