Error in Drawing View Creation

I'm having a problem creating a drawing of an assembly and I was hoping that someone might be able to point me in the direction of a cause or even better a fix.

I have an assembly which is unfortunately covered by an NDA so I cannot attach it here. When I create a new drawing and try to place a view I get the error shown in the attached screenshot. The view is placed but appears empty unless I change it to shaded. In that case the shading of the view is visible but the edges are not. The assembly has no errors and I have tried rebuilding it. The assembly is made up of two subassemblies and both of these place correctly onto drawings.

Any Ideas?

So it seems that one of the parts that was in the sub assembly had a bad third party link to an excel spreadsheet. There was no error or update required but I opened the file, saved it, closed it and updated the link and suddenly everything started behaving itself. I guess the moral of the story is add third party links to the list of things to double check if a drawing is misbehaving for no apparent reason.
