Error applying patch to file c:\Config.MSI\PT7E84.tmp while installing 2017 R3

I have Inventor Professionan 2017 R2 (buld 199) installed on my Windows 10 x64.

I'm trying to install R3, but having error:

Error applying patch to file c:\Config.MSI\PT7E84.tmp

I disabled antivirus, I ran Inventor Setup using Administrator, but nothing helps.

Clicking Retry button doesn't help.

Attached are the screenshot and log file.

Not sure what I can try.

Messages like that usually points to some corruption in this folder (C:\Windows\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed\) structure..  But I don't know where..  Let me see if I can dig up some more info for you...

Update:  Also do you have any Inventor language packs installed and this Inventor is not based on the Inventor ETO (Engineering To Order) installation?

1. I don't have any language packs on my computer

2. Not sure exactly what does it mean, but I have this in about box:

So most likely that's the issue you're having..  You have Inventor ETO installed.  It is my understanding to remove the ETO add-in, try to install R3 and put the ETO add-in back in.

Not sure how can I do that... I installed Inventor ETO as a single product, so I expect the R3 update would also update it as a single product.

Maybe I should verify whether I downloaded right version or not.

I will be on vacation during next two weeks so I won't be able to verify that.

@Mark.Lancaster and @AndrewPotachits I running into a very similar situation when attempting to install Update 4.  I have uninstalled ETO and restarted my machine.  Here is the error I'm getting when attempting to install:

Attached is my install log:

Are you sure the update hasn't been already applied?  There should be numerous log files associated to this  installation in your personal temp (%temp%) folder.  Zip and attach here.

Also did you disable your anti-virus application while doing this install?

How did you install it?  Through your Autodesk Desktop App?  If so, go to your Autodesk Account and download it and then install it.

@Mark.Lancaster It looks like disabling the Antivirus resulted in the error being raised on a different file:2017-10-06_9-54-28.png

I do not have any updates installed.  I don't need to install the updates in order correct? They are cumulative?

I attached my log files.

The update I'm trying to install was downloaded from my Accounts.Autodesk site.

I am still not able to apply this service pack.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Your logs are showing that it can't update the core Inventor 2017.

Review this...

I don't believe the AIDA works on updates.  Only for new installation of the product.

Do this as a test..  Go into Windows Control Panel/Program and Features/Add&Remove programs, located your Inventor, right mouse click and select uninstall/change.  Does the add/remove features, reinstall/repair and uninstall option appear?

This will happen when programs get updated out of sequence.

I would have you check for installed updates and remove all of you Inventor 2017 updates starting from the oldest to the newest:

View Installed Updates.png

You should see something like the following:

2017 Inventor Installed Updates.png

I would then reboot and use the Autodesk Desktop App to update Inventor 2017:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/About-Autodesk-desktop-app.html

If this still does not work then you might need to Uninstall Inventor 2017 and start over:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Autodesk\Uninstall Tool

Thank you.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Inventor from Inventor_ETO_Dev_2017_Enu_Win_64bit_dlm I did not install ETO and I'm still getting the same error when attempting to install 2017.4.

Any other options on how to address this issue?

Looking at the log files the patch if failing when trying to update the file "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Bin\Bin32\dwfcore_wt_ns.1.7.0.dll" not sure if this file doesn't exist or is corrupt.

You mentioned reinstalling Inventor but from the ETO install?

I would recommend re-downloading the Inventor Pro install files, http://autodesk.creativevirtual15.com/autodesk/bot.html?isJSEnabled=1&businessArea=Root.Front%20Desk..., and uninstalling and reinstalling again.

After uninstalling make sure the file mentioned above doesn't exist prior to reinstalling, if it does manually delete it before reinstalling.

Thanks,

Danny

If the other clients are returning the same or a similar error, then yes I would recommend the same thing to allow the patch to be applied.

Thanks,

Danny
