Environment Apps grayed out again - reset utility NG, Inventor /install.exe NG

I'm asking again because I marked the original post as answered prematurely and is not getting any attention.  My copy of IV2016 again does not have Dynamic Simulation, Stress Analysis, Inventor Studio or Cable & Harness even though Add In manager says they were loaded on start.

I tried: the CMD suggestion as administrator (Inventor /install.exe in the inventor bin directory ) and it worked for a little while but the problem returned now it doesn't seem to do anything.  Any help?

Thanks

Have you tried the "inventor reset utility"?

Is it specific to your user account and it works for others?

Well.. please try and see if it corrects the issue.. It could just be a corrupt user profile and the reset should fix that..

Maybe a Windows permission issue problem?

I seem to remember this has come up a few times in the past (with 2016 I believe) but don't remember if there is a proven fix for it that worked for all..

I just tried the reset utility again and it did not solve the issue.

Thanks though.

Out of curiosity.. If you open Inventor by right clicking on the icon and select "run as administrator" does it work then?

If not..I think I'd do a clean/complete uninstall of Inventor and reinstall it..

Running as administrator behaved the same way and after uninstalling the Application I'm not able to reinstall with similar errors as this one:

The system cannot open the device specified.
C:\Users\rharker\AppData\Local\Temp\_AI8058.tmp\x64\inventor\inventor.msi

the hexadecimal tmp filename changes each attempt. .... rharker has administrative privileges as well. I've tried all 3 download methods of installing the software and am stuck here with the same error on each attempts except for the name of the tmp file.

I tried running the msi file in the file location and it fails saying it cannot be launched this way ... must be launched from setup.

Rob,

Download all files from the Virtual Agent..

http://autodesk.creativevirtual15.com/autodesk/bot.html?isJSEnabled=1&businessArea=Root.Front%20Desk&startContext=Root.Front%20Desk

Let all parts completely download then simply double click on part1

Turns out that the problem installing was MS security Essentials antivirus.  Simply turning it off wasn't good enough.  Had to uninstall it and that wasn't good enough either until I rebooted.  Now it's installing and I'll let you know how it goes with the environment apps once I finish this.  Thanks for the tip!

Well --- downloaded the IV2017 installation files and unpacked them.  The installation at least started and got through the C++ redistribution programs and the 2017 materials but when it started the inventor I got the same missing file message as before and the installation failed.  Now if I start over it instantly gives the error again.  I have another idea maybe my firewall is interfering ... I'll turn it off and try again later.

Still can't install inventor using now 4 installation methods.  Tried turning of my firewall and that didn't help.

Anybody got any tips?

I may have missed it.. What specific errors are you getting? (Was it the temp folder issue still?)

Did you download all 3 parts from the virtual agent?

Have you disabled UAC? Disabled Virus Software? Disabled Firewall? Cleaned out the temp folder?

Performed the "Autodesk Clean Uninstall"?  (Did you uninstall via Windows or with the Autodesk uninstall utility?)

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Clean-Uninstall-of-Inventor-2016.html

And made darn sure you have full admin rights on your computer and "Run as administrator" for installation/extraction?

@mcgyvr --- Thanks for sticking with me;)

Well-  I didn't use the uninstall utility only the windows uninstall and my UAC was jacked up too (lowered now). I discovered that I had remnants of RogueKiller antivirus still installed so I removed that, turned off MS security essentials re-ran the IV2017 installer and it did proceed through the installation of inventor until it had to install the language pack and there I got the same missing file error as before ... then the entire install was backed out by the setup program.

I am now re-unpacking the install files "run as administrator" and am going to try again with UAC turned all the way down.

Once I get the IV2017 installed I think the UAC thing might be the fix for the original problem.

Thanks again

Good luck..

The installation of Inventor has provided to be "tough" for many for some reason..

Personally its always worked fine for me but I know I have proper permissions,etc... and usually always turn off UAC and Virus software (but I've not enough times and never had a problem either)

@mcgyvr

So it turned out that I did have a stealth version of trend micro running on my PC and I disabled it and everything loaded as advertised afterwards.

So I'm back to the original problem, Dynamic Simulation, Stress Analysis, Inventor Studio & Cable and Harness are still grayed out.

Thanks So far,

Robert

So I never got these apps running in IV2016 and now am in 2017 and I've got the identical problem.  So reading through the other solutions to "apps greyed out" I noticed that someone else had an aftermarket app that was interfering.  I suspected that this might be my problem so I looked at my addins and saw that I only had one app that was not from autodesk.

I unloaded and disabled the Sketchfab exporter (InventorToSketchfabAddIn - which worked fine) and closed/restarted inventor.  Shazzam ... all the greyed out apps were populated and available!

I haven't tried it in IV2016 but I suspect this fixed it there too.

Hope this helps someone else.
