Witch version of Inventor do you use?

 

I only have Inventor 2017 installed so if you have a older release you can't open it. 😞

Curtis,

 

Wow, that is some impressive modeling right there. Why wasn't an ellipse drawn, lines the horizontal plane and the vertical axis drawn, the ellipse trimmed, and the sketch revolved? One sketch, one operation there.

Create a 2D drawing of your Revolve and compare the views to the image attached by the OP.

I think you will see the problem with Revolve.

I think he’s into dished end for stainless steel vessels, torispherical, ellipsoid, etc.

Edit:

 

the ones I've done so far are circular so revolving the sketch is sufficient but he wants an ellipse at the vessel end. I wonder how would that be manufactured....

Here is the 2:1 semi ellipsoidal dished ends I use for our vessels. Easiest to set your parameters and make a quick form so the diameter drives the crown and knuckle radius

The trouble is, the footprint/plan/top view of what OP is trying to achieve is elliptical. Not just a straight-up elliptical head, as Curtis reminded me. Check out salariua's model. I thought that was a good way to go about it. I like to "paramater-ize" things, too. Might not be a bad idea for a double-elliptical head template.
