Dual Monitor Window Size Anomaly

I'm experiencing an annoying window size problem with Inventor. Here's a screenshot of the boundary between my monitors:

Capture.PNG

The displays split where the Inventor window anomaly is (most prominent in the activated "File" tab), so effectively there's a small overhang onto my second monitor that blocks the far right side features. Any time I want to scroll or close that window, I have to re-maximize Inventor to get that little sliver out of the way. Is this a known issue?

BTW, I'm running Windows 10.0.16299 with an Nvidia P4000 graphics card. All drivers are verified up-to-date.

Are your monitors the same model and are they configured as one panel or two separate monitors?

I've had this issue on multiple different pcs with quadro and geforce graphics cards, windows 7 and 10, and multiple versions of Inventor. I've updated graphics drivers and filed a few bug reports with Autodesk. The most answer I've received is it is a graphics card issue. I still believe it's an issue with Inventor as it's the only program I've seen do this and it happens across vastly different hardware.

Two separate monitors, same model and resolution, and being driven by the default Windows PnP monitor driver.

Strange, I have no issues running an RTX2070 with two monitors, set as seaparate. Are GPU drivers up to date?

My monitors are different models and sizes but I doubt that would impact.

I don't know if this will help, but I had this issue in the past and don't anymore. It defiantly happened when I was using a virtual machine but I also updated to a manufacturer specific driver direct from NVIDIA. One other thing I noticed last time I updated NVIDIA drivers is they have a studio driver option which is optimized for graphics workstations instead of gaming.

I'm currently on the nvidia studio driver and still seeing these issues.

Is Inventor on your primary or secondary monitor?

My right side monitor is my primary, and that's where I normally use Inventor. It bleeds over onto my left (secondary) monitor. Interestingly, when I use Inventor on my left monitor, it doesn't hang over onto my right monitor.

does it still happen if you swap your monitor location in your display settings?

@jason_hetu, I was considering that. @tdant  another thing trying could be to make your secondary monitor primary and vice versa as they're the same model.

Yes, but only if the display that Inventor is on is set as the primary display.

For clarity, my preferred setup is to have the right monitor be number 1, the primary monitor, and the one that shows Inventor. As of now, that configuration causes overlap.

Edit: after making the necessary changes to test the above, and changing them back, the strange behavior has changed (and gotten worse). Here's what it looks like now:

I get this with both Inventor and Autocad, I have no idea what is causing this.

Hi! This could be DPI related. Please try a few things and report back your findings.

1) Change both Screen Resolution and Scaling to Windows recommended setting.

2) Right-click on Inventor icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Change High DPI settings -> check both boxes.

3) If neither above works, go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment variables -> create "QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR” and set it to 0.

Many thanks!

I tried all three and the problem still persists.

I did as well, to no effect. I would also note that I am only using two of the same 1080p monitor, nothing special that should be causing problems.

Hi everyone,

I just thought of something to try that might fix this issue and it looks like it works for me.

So if you go into the advanced system properties and go to the performance settings, by default most of these options are on. I think there are some that are causing this issue. See second image.

Default windows settingsDefault windows settings

As a quick test, I selected the adjust for best performance which turns off all options. At this point, everything looked the same but after a restart, everything looked perfect like you see below. I did not test further but I think it may have to do with the two settings highlighted below. Hopefully, this also gives the dev team a better idea of how to reproduce this issue and fix it so we don't have to change windows settings in the future.

Hope this works for you all.

@jason_hetu where can I find the system properties? I too experience this problem for a long time, across multiple PC's, laptops and users. There's a similar topic here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/iv2018-dual-monitors-browser-on-2nd-screen-gradually-g...

Hope the devs can finally reproduce this issue and solve the bug. It is very annoying if Inventor constantly blocks a small part on your 2nd or 3rd screen.

Hi thanks for linking this other issue. I did not know about it. It would be great to see if this setting fixes your issue as well. The setting is in the Windows System Properties. If you click on your start menu and start typing system properties you should find it. Remember you will need to restart for this to take effect.
