Drawing view not updating after replace model reference in drawing.

Inventor 2020.4.2

Any ideas why this deferred update is occurring on a replace model reference? The file reference is not correctly referencing the view. The wrong dimensions are shown as a result. There is no indication of any issues until any view browser node is selected and the context menu is activated by right mouse click and this signals an update to occur.

It seems it updates normally from time to time but is not constant and needs the below work around.  No amount of save and  close of the drawing or rebuild of the assembly was enough to trigger an update to occur.

Hi @A.Acheson

Greetings! Some thoughts on this and hopefully I am understanding your issues.

Step1: Model Replace not updating views sounds like a bug

That somehow the model replace didnt trigger a view update. Only possible explanation is that the view did not react properly to the model getting dirty event. I tried a couple of experiments on Inv 2020, but was not able to see the issue. I did notice that the section/detail views are in a different sheet? and wondering if the base view didnt get updated because it was on an inactive sheet? and therefore the child view didnt get updated? I am guessing here - my apologies, but I think we would need to see the dataset or have some steps to reproduce. I can gladly take a look at it if you can and are allowed to share the dataset - you can email it to me at: sundarsATautodeskDOTcom.

Step 3 - View lightning bolt

I think you are referring to the view update lightning bolt coming in? If so, then it is per design. We always enable the lightning bolt to update a view whenever you click on the view in the graphics window OR you right click on it in the browser. Sometimes, the lightning bolt is delayed and lights up after you exit the context menu. We always show the view update lightning bolt so that a view can be force-updated.

Thanks

Hi Shiva,

Thank-you for the response.

Step 1.The view shown is of plan and end view of a part file and is a seperate model. On the same page is a section view of the first referenced file an assembly.

Step3. The lighting bolt failed to show when clicking on the part file view in question.

On various test it did update occasionally between file referenced but not consistently. The same happened for 4 seperate drawings files. I simply copied and pasted the views to another drawing and changed the file reference.

Hi @A.Acheson

Thank you for the update. Sorry to bother you but a couple of more questions and I am sure you probably did this, but just to make sure.....

1. When you replaced the model reference did you get a prompt asking you if its ok to replace?

Once you say "Yes", did you put an "X" next to the file being replaced in the dialog?

I did try some workflows with section/detail similar to what you had indicated. But the model replace appears to be working fine for me with my dataset.

Do you have "Enable background updates on"? If so, can you try turning it OFF and see if that fixes the issue? I doubt that this would be the issue but still.

Lastly, if are able to share your dataset with me along with steps to reproduce, I am only too happy to investigate. You can reach me at: sundarsATautodeskDOTcom.

Thanks

-shiva
