Inventor 2022 and 2023.
I have looked at this quite a bit and can't seem to work it out.
There is a preview for what the Sheet Format will look like on the standard templates:
I am able to modify these and the preview seems to work but at some point they just break and I can't see how or why. All I get are crosses.
Does anyone know what causes this?
I am assuming it has to do with the styles but can't see exactly where or what triggers them to no longer generate a preview.
Hi! I am sorry for the delay. I need to work with the project team to understand how it works better. Either it is a limitation or there is a way to customize it.
Many thanks!
Hi,you can try the following steps:
1.Create drawings and add views.
2.Create Sheet Format.
3.Delete all views and save the drawing template. The new file dialog box is displayed as shown in the following figure.

This is how you would expect it to work, and it seems to do so with the default templates.
However, at some point while modifying a custom template it no longer generates a preview. No matter what I do.
They sometimes lose all previews completely and the only way to get them back (with an X instead of a preview) is to recreate the Sheet Formats.
I told a customer about this feature and then realised it doesn't really work as expected. It would also be great if it didn't create two sheets when creating new sheets from that menu as well. Especially with prompted entry boxes as you then get the prompts twice.
You should only see no_thumbnail image for 'sheet format' if they were created before Inv 2021. If you see this no_thumbnail on newly created 'sheet format', can you please provide dataset which shows this behavior or provided steps to reproduce it?
Thanks
Maulik
I am seeing it in 2022 and 2023, have done quite a few tests to see how that thumbnail is being generated. Starting with a fresh standard.idw each time.
Template attached.
Hello @BDCollett !
Sorry for late reply.
I could see behavior you described in file you provided. I've shared it with a developer for more investigation.
Hopefully, we can figure out what is wrong in file and a way to fix it. Will keep you posted here.
Thanks

Thanks for taking a look. I don't think it's a problem with that file as I can re-create the issue with any standard template. Eventually after changing it enough, these previews just fail to work.
I noticed another odd problem when using this template today where the Hole Notes suddenly have an "n" instead of Ø for all the different hole notes..
Changing fonts does not seem to fix it, any idea what would cause this?
'n' is the same ANSI character code that the AIGDT font uses for the diameter symbol: Ø
Seems that your AIGDT font went AWOL...

I figured it was font related but unfortunately changing font doesn't bring back the symbol either. Also some of the other Dimension styles using the same font still have the correct symbol.. can't really explain it. Easy enough to fix this one though.
@BDCollett I'm glad you figured out the issue. If you come across any other issue, feel free to tag me.
Thanks

Hi Maulik,
This is not the solution to my initial problem with the Sheet Format, I would still like some explanation to the working of that feature.
The symbol issue I can fix but I have no explanation how it got like that either.

Going to bump this again. Would love to know why it's not working as expected and how to fix it.
