Drawing File Not Opening from "Right Click" - Open Drawing

Hi All,

As the title suggests, I'm having some issues with my .idw drawings no longer opening from my right click > open drawing command.

I'm moving the structure of my projects over to a single project file approach, where I have a project file in the root of my directory.

Each customer then has their own project folder, structured as below.

I have an assembly in the 03) Assemblies folder, and its corresponding drawing in the 06) Inventor Drawings folder. This is how I've always structured my folders and never had any issues opening drawings.

Now when I go to open the assembly drawing, inventor is looking in the 03) Assemblies folder to find it. If I move the drawing into this folder, it opens fine, but I want to keep the files in their own individual folders for later workflow.

This only seems to have happened since I've adopted the single project file approach.

Any help greatly appreciated?

Thanks

Hi!

If all the folders are inside the project folder, it should Work.

I initially test to create an dwg at the assembly folder, then move it to another folder (copy paste) (all folders inside the project folder)... and it works.

Also.... the dwg file has the same name as the assembly file? or do they have different names?

Hi thanks.
Yes, everything is inside my project folder.

Its a .idw not .dwg, but should be the same.
Yes, both files have the same name.

One thing I have noticed, within my 06) Inventor drawings folder, I have further split my drawings down into sub folders, where they currently live.
If I move the .idw directly into the 06) Inventor drawings folder, it opens fine.

However, I should be able to put my drawing file in any folder underneath the umbrella of the project file, right?

Thanks

Oh boy...yes, it's supposed to always work (have one root folder, which is also your "Workspace", with everything underneath it, and it finds everything). But it still fails.
I've been struggling with this forever. What I changed: I now use a "nested Project file" where the higher one calls on all the settings in the "Included File" (this one contains all special folders, settings, etc.); so it's like the main Project File calls the Included File as a kind of "subroutine". Is it perfect?...No, but it certainly finds all the files on the shared network drive a lot faster.

I have tested this is 2022 with the latest updates. First I made a folder for the part and saved the part it it. Then I made a folder at the same level as the part folder called drawings. I saved the drawing there. Checked it and it opened it. Then I moved the drawing to a sub-folder inside the drawing folder and it still opened it.
